What are you all using to get your pups into the bed? Milo sucked at jumping into the bed, even before the lift. While I can lift his 75lb ass up there, I need something for the wife.

Also, if anyone has any hints for getting him in his crate short of a wrestling match… he started fighting yesterday for some reason ?

We use these folding steps for our 95 pounder. She does great. As for the crate, she just goes in the bed under the topper. But she’s slept in ours in a crate while camping, and I just lined the steps up with the open crate. Maybe momentum did the rest.

How old is Milo? Is he food motivated? Did something change in the load out if this is a recent change in his behavior?

We ended up having to spend an hour a day for about a week training our dog to use the command phrase, "Crate". Could probably see a bunch of videos on the YT how to crate train better than I could describe our method..

My dog is a 5 year old GSP / American Lab mix. He's a great bird dog and we hunt and hike together a lot. He is used to riding in the crate. But the crate was always in the back of a wagon so he was "with" me.

He had some issues in the beginning with the gladiator with a topper. He was separated from me and couldn't hear or smell me. So I did a few things to get him acclimated.

1) lots of treats and praise when he went in. (I use the command kennel)
2) Very short drive, about 90 seconds to a cemetery near us where he can run off leash a bit.
3) cracked the window in the topper and the Gladiator so he could hear and smell me

This conditions him to know that crate means off leash fun and treats while dad praises me.

At first he would whine a bit. But after a week of a 2 minute trip to the cemetery in the crate he came around.

Now he is back to how he was when riding in the crate in the passenger compartment. He equates the crate with family fun.

I don't really have to worry because 90% of the time he is in the crate he's going somewhere that is more fun than if he was left at home. So the training reinforces itself.

When he sees the e-collar with the bell he goes nuts. When he sees my pack or me loading up guns and vests, he goes absolutely insane. So its a good thing.

In fact, if I leave the door to the garage open and the back of the truck is open, he will jump in the truck and wait for HOURS for me to let him in the crate. ha.

He is two. Really not sure what changed. He went in the crate fine initially and fought ever time after that. He is crate trained fine at home (not that he uses it anymore). After I wrestled his back legs in he would go in the rest of the way and lay down. I could even open the crate door and pet him. Treats had no interest to him.

Getting ready to build one, will be 1 x 10 board, hinged in the middle to ease storage/carry, some anti-slip w flat small molding pieces spaced up the thing to help both mutts get some climbing traction. My plan is to go from the ground to the rear seat. Some pics coming after Im finished

Thinking of doing just one big step that is attached to the platform and supports itself on the rockrail when extended. Our dog does not like the ramp, it is too steep.

That’s why we did steps instead. They can get up safely. And ours is way to big to be in the back seat. :)

Ours just hit the 125 pounds, still a little bit of filling out to do, but almost grown out now finally. Removed the seats and he is great. If I have to I can put the 40 seat in and he woul be able to ride sitting up. Tbh to much junk under the platform to bother though

The steps are too many and narrow to bridge the height. Of course, he can do it, but he only needs max 2 steps.

He can jump into the bed and the back, but tbh it won't be great long term for his back jumping out (main concern)

Also to all those that let their dogs jump into the back seat, the metal panel under the entry is super soft, if your dog hits it with his paws jumping you will have dents.

We have kids in the back, so no seat removals in my future. And mine is lifted too far for her to jump into the bed. She could when it was stock. But I completely agree jumping down from that height isn’t good for their joints. Hips and shoulders. The vet warned us about watching that with her when she was a puppy. Too much weight to jump down repeatedly over time. I like that the steps take up less bed space when folded than many of the ramps. We’ve got her trained at this point to wait for us to reply the steps before coming down.
