Not sure this has been addressed, or my search is broken.

During phone calls using bluetooth has anyone had complaints of high road noise from the other end of the call? Everyone tells me my Jeep has the worst phone noise of any vehicle. So, I put my hand over the mic openings on the overhead console and it gets better yet they can still hear me fine! Is this weird?

I have a hardtop btw. Anyone come up with a solution? I was going to try black electrical tape over the mics and see what it does, but on a $68k Jeep (gulp) I was hoping for better.

Thanks

I have had the same experience with call quality so I only use the hands free bluetooth if I am under 35mph or so. It doesn't surprise me tho since my Jeep has a lot more wind noise than a typical vehicle.

It is strange that covering up the mic makes the quality better, but it may make sense . I know there are wind socks for cameras/microphones to cut down wind noise so I would be curious if taping a small piece of foam over the mic would help.

I ended up buying a Blue Parrot headset made for factory environments because the noise was so bad. It's a clunky solution, especially with Android Auto, but when I use it, no one knows I'm even in a car even up to 70+ MPH.

It's the CX400-XT

Yes, but mostly when it was raining then the other party said "I'll call you back when the storm is over" LOL
So instead of the truck BT, when my phone rings now I hit a button on one of my hearing aids and road noise isn't a problem on either end.

There is definitely an issue and I think Jeep may have fixed or improved it in the 2022 models, just wish i knew what it was. I have a 2020 launch edition and my bluetooth with hard top on has terrible wind noise for those on receiving end at anything over 45mph. My buddy just got a 2022 and I hear him just fine at 70mph. I thought about taking it back to Jeep but i've been there so many times from everything from rear locker to front steering, I'm just tired. Any suggestions for a fix?

Same issue here. Noticed it in early 2021. So far they did a software update that made the GPS inoperable. Then they replaced the radio to fix the GPS, ( with a used unit). Couldn't get xmradio to work because the radio belonged to another user. Dealer had no control with the XMRADIO subscription that them me to straighten out that mess. Jeep wave offered an extended warranty to walk away from the problem. I wanted the issue fixed to keep the drivers hands free (State Law). Took it to the dealer again they made a note and are waiting for a fix from Jeep. Jeep says they don't have a problem and now fix is in the works. Jeep wave retracted the extended warranty offer and said that they could not keep my case open.

Just a vent here. But yes, there are others with the same problem. JeepCares has not been of any help yet. More of a facilitator/ liaison than a source of help. The issue needs more attention in my opinion to get FCA engineering to address it.

Since the mic isn't in your mouth like performers on stage, it's gonna pick up anything that's in the cabin as far as sounds that exist around the driver. Cover? Right, how can you cover it and pick up a voice in the middle of the cabin? Anything that covers the mic is also going to cover it from a voice. There's space between the driver's mouth and the mic - put any sound in there in between, that's what gets picked up.
My best example is - try hearing aids. Wonderful inventions, can be a real life-saver, wouldn't be without them.
So the problem? If I am at A and my wife is at C, and I'm running water at B between me and her, or there's a TV or fan or anything else that makes sounds, guess what gets picked up? The closest sound. And some frequencies travel differently than others. highs tend to travel in a straight line, lows tend to go every which direction. You can aim the sound coming from a tweeter - the sound coming from your subs everyone on the block hears.
The only way to make things better would be if there was some noise cancelling involved or a better mic, more directional, aimed right at the driver's mouth.
Otherwise a sound in the cabin will be picked up and wind noises are more easily picked up and heard than a voice.
My solution? Bluetooth hearing aids. All phone calls go through them. It's like a pilot's mic - the other party hears me via the mic of my hearing aid - meaning my voice and no other sounds at all unless I sneeze or cough and blow their ears out.

Geez that's a lot of screwing around... Can't Jeep just make a replacement part?? I'd pay $200 a set in a heartbeat, and I'm sure tons of others would too. I wonder if an aftermarket company would take this on?

Fwiw, I haven’t had any complaints when using CarPlay for phone calls. Maybe the people I’m talking to just don’t care enough to comment, idk.

2022 here. No issues and no complaints with bluetooth nor CarPlay. So maybe they changed something starting in 22

It's not road noise, it's being caused by the engine running. My wife calls me every day after work and the noise is loud while she is driving but one day while we where talking she made a stop and killed the engine and the noise stopped while still connected on Bluetooth.

OP, i had an issue for about a month. My fix for this was to lay sound deading material on the hard top, sound deading material in the tub under the armalite flooring, i ran a foam tube along the outside bottom edge of the windshield and also added sound deading material behind the windshield on the frame of the truck in the corners just below the hinged area, i can still fold with windshield down, but the cab is quiet now at highway speeds.
