I am researching tires to replace what I have, Falken factory LT 285/70/17 SM

I have Falkens on my Gladiator Rubicon and my Ram 1500 and have no issues, just need to replace as the ones on Jeep are low.

Who has gone to 35s from the 33 stock and what brands and why?

Would you stick with Falken but upsize to 35? From all I have read I would not need to raise or modify the Gladiator.

I went good year duratrac. Mainly because USAA has a huge discount with good year. Discount tire met it. It’s like 30% off.

35s fit stock on the Rubi.

I went to Toyo Open Country AT III 35x11.50's; these are load "C" 6 ply (take offs from my Trade in). NO lift added, the wheels had less back space at 4.5". Prior to the Toyos we ran Falken AT3s in 33s. BTW the Toyos really measure 34". Ride is = to Falkens, same for traction and handling. Also run the Toyos in 35x12.50 on our JKU.

A leveling kit would be nice in the front with 35s. Do you plan on running them with stock rims or aftermarket? I ran general grabber atx before and they were nice tires.

Went with Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo3s in 315/70/17 (35x12.5x17). They are load range E, but still pretty light for a 315/70/17. I liked the Falken MTs a lot, but with the MTs, the siping just didn't last long. It was between these and the Falken Wildpeak ATs in 35x12.5x17, as it was always my intention to run 35s. My tire shop had the Dueler AT Revo3 in stock. I'm sure I lost some mud capability, but these duelers do pretty well off-road and on. They look great too (I love white letter tires!). I liked the Falkens a lot, but I drive a good bit, and at 12k on the Falkens (MT version), a lot of the rain siping was gone, and they were starting to get a bit squirrelly in slick rain. We run some trails, but my gladiator also sees plenty of weekly commute and a ton of travel mileage, so these seem to be a good trade off. These run 34.4 in this size.

I love my 33ā€ Falkens but keep in mind that they’re some heavy sons of bitches. As for 35s, the Falkens are 73lbs vs the KO2s’ 64 lbs. Hell at that weight, you may as well get KM3s which weigh 75lbs.

(These weights are from Discount tire)

Stock rims. Not into crawling so don't plan to do heavy modifying.

I think on stock rims I would look at 285/75/17 or a 35/11.5/17.

2021 Mojave here. Just upgraded stock Falken 33s to Nitto Trail Grapplers 35x11.50R17. No lift/spacer, etc. required. This tire is also a C rated tire like the Toyo tire mentioned above. Went with the C-rated as I’m not a rock climber/hard core off-roader and don’t really need an E rated tire. Slightly better ride on C-rated 35s. I like the slightly skinnier tire too with the 11.50. Put them on Quadratec retro alloy 17ā€ wheels. Loving this setup.

The new Milestar Patagonia A/T Pro is due out next summer. That's my next tire.

Yep. The price you pay to go from an over-rated tire to a quality tire with thick sidewalls.

Next time you've got a Falken tire dismounted, reach in with your hand and pinch the sidewalls around the bead with your thumb and fingers and feel how thick those carcasses are. Falken's 2-ply sidewalls are beefier than BFG's 3-ply sidewalls by a large margin.

No one talks about these tires but they are very similar to the Bridgestones mentioned above. The Firestone Destination XT. I have them in 315/70r17 and they are only 61 pounds. They are quieter than my previous 33ā€ terra grappler G2s. I have the 3.73 gears but my mpg dropped at most 1mpg. Took them on a decent trail and never lost traction. Only had them for about 1500 miles so can’t comment on wear yet. If you’re not a rock crawler I would give them a try, because I’m sure the sidewalls are not the strongest (being so light weight). Look in other forums and most gave them great reviews, especially in the snow.
