Can you without special tools, or can you pay someone to replace it for you?

I still have a Galaxy SIII. On it, like the smart phones before it, I can easily, with my fingers, pop off the cover and remove or replace the battery. Of course, that was the last smart phone where I could easily replace the operating system, and have a near top device.
Heat gun and guitar picks can get any modern smartphone apart. And you can still root modern Android phones fairly easily.

I’m not hearing a reply. Must be sinking in. A lot of good sense there

"Planned Obsolescence" is a buzzword many like to lean on or explain away things they do not understand.

Not quite the same though, is it, as just opening the case, remove, and replace?

The Kyocera Duraforce pro 3 has a removable battery and is incredibly durable drop resistant and waterproof. Cost wise, its the same as any high end phone. the battery replacment is easy via a coin type screw to remove the back cover

Sure isn't. But the trade off is my phone is water and dust resistant now. Which I work outside. It's a good to have

I guess being 12 years older than my wife and the average lifetime of women being a couple of years longer, I must also be "planned obsolescence."

Maybe I need to have another beer to comprehend the complexity of the situation.

Why do these goofs that make videos think we want to look at their mug making dumb faces and that it somehow promotes a video?
I'm more likely to skip it because it really shows me the opposite - that it's for show and clicks, and not facts.

That makes me less likely to watch, not more.

Not quite the reaction I was expecting from this group, but FYI this is a highlight of an hour documentary which has documented proof from company emails and case history, as well as lawsuits. Not just some random keyboard warrior.
There's a few, yes, but is it all? No.
Proof is in my own home.
Some of it is just how things work - like electronics, for example. I worked in a company that was full of EEs, and other sorts of engineers. It's not a PLANNED thing, it's how some things work. You'll always find some companies pulling crap, but it's not everything, everywhere.
You can't even include cell phones and computers because those become obsolete not due to planning, but due to advancements in technology happening faster than manufacturers can keep up, and doing one better than the competition can be a matter of survival.

Yes, you dig and dive and do enough research, you'll find some, but not the norm.
And of course, Americans want cheap, not forever, and you can't really have both.

Like some people's +$1k smart phones that are dead in a couple of years due to the battery failing.
Not the same thing. People want SMALL, compact, less heat, longer battery life - that means getting rid of the connections that make battery replacements possible. Batteries will fail - it's chemistry, not planning. Part of battery life is how you treat it, how you charge and discharge it, maybe some if that bad battery life is self-inflicted.
If you don't need the latest tech, my wife's cousin is still using a cell phone my wife gave her 4 years ago, and it was 3 years old then.

As a side note, you can replace the battery in a smartphone
Beyond the ordinary phone user, though. And - subject to battery availability as we've found out before.

They do not care about losing you with your logic or reason as most smooth brain frontal lobe viewers take the bait anyways and they have the data to prove it works. To some degree, Youtube almost forces most creators to embrace this format regardless as it does push the engagement numbers so they can show their advertisers higher stats.

To some degree, the OP even posting this video just perpetuated the issue as it got most everybody here to click on it just to see what the fuss was about and gave them more clicks than they would with other organic methods.

I don't think it's beyond the regular person. I think most people are just lazy. I got a job doing it at 16. Heat gun, some picks, and bam. Screen popped off, disconnect the ribbon cables, and toss a new battery in with some new adhesive. 30 minute job easily. And thanks to iFixit and eBay, sourcing isn't typically difficult if you have a phone from a major manufacturer (ie Apple, Samsung, etc)

I could less about the number of posts on this subject. You can see from my profile I a very low post profile. My intention was for current Gladiator owners to relate their actual experience of reliability compared to what they have owned before. In addition since Stallantis is a European company, if they felt any of the problems with other Euro car makers had infiltrated into the U.S. division vehicles. Had I known what a rukus this post has created, I never would have even posted it.

I guess you maybe overestimate the ordinary person/cell phone user.
Most won't have the tools - and then, each phone is a bit different inside.
Some people have difficulty putting gas in their own vehicle, or figuring out connections on modern TVs. You have to consider the real consumer.
Think of this - Jay Leno did a "Jay walking" bit years ago. The guy doing the bit talked to people on the street, asking them who they were going to vote for and so on - then showed them photos of a man and asked if they could identify him. No, most could not. It was the official VP portrait of Al Gore.

I could tell again of the people sitting around a table seeking employment at a local factory - most failed basic math tests, and the tests of things like what is larger 1/4 or 1/3 - FAIL.
It's crazy how people can't follow basic instructions.

I totally avoid such conspiracy videos - this has been a thing since I was in HS in the 70s. It's a buzzword. People confuse PLANNED with how ordinary things work and their lifespan.

In addition since Stallantis is a European company, if they felt any of the problems with other Euro car makers had infiltrated into the U.S. division vehicles.
If anything, it's a larger issue with U.S. based automakers. The European vehicles have a reputation here of living longer than U.S. cars, Japanese, even longer.
And issues with our Jeeps could be TOTALLY unrelated to anything else going on because it's still FCA that heads up the US side of things, and Jeeps are made right here in the US.

I don't believe you can make any connection at all - other than they just don't make things like they used to - but maybe they do, because my mother complained of cars falling apart, being poorly made and so on - and yet today, we have better warranties and I firmly believe that with proper care, my Jeep could last longer or at least as long as, any other car I've owned.
Trying to draw a connection between other European companies and some issues with Jeeps - not enough data, and it's very subjective anyway.
