Since the blocks were all the same externally, IF you still had it, one could drop a nice 401 into it with no modifications to the Jeep at all.
Yes, BUT it would break everything it was attached to. ? Had a friend who owned an auto shop and offered to stick a mildly built 401 he had, in mine for ~$1000 back then, but warned me that I'd need to upgrade almost the entire drive train to withstand the increase in torque & HP or it would, in his words, "break just about everything it's attached to". The stock 304 was so smog control ridden it had relatively little power in stock form. If memory serves me correctly, it would have been nearly double the power.

I absolutely love the JT. It is the second favorite vehicle I have owned only surpassed by the TJ. But the JT does everything I ask of it and more - in comfort. Of the issues I have had with it, they really haven't been significant. In fact I love driving this thing so much it upsets me I dont have the ability to go on more frequent trips. Sometimes I even drive it 2 minutes to the office just so it doesn't sit longer than 2 weeks at a time. The cost and money I have put into it thus far is more than worth it.

So anyway, to the OP.... I've been drooling over the possibility of Jeep making a pickup since ~2000 (had a TJ then), and have posted comments on every article I saw trying to convince Jeep to produce one (I had always lusted for a Scrambler). When they first hit the market I wanted one SO badly, but had other expenses to deal with first. Ran a 2013 Mustang GT Premium Convertible that I got at a steal in 2020 until now.... traded in the 'Stang for as much as I paid for it despite putting 50k miles on it in 3 yrs, and bought my new (to me) 2020 JTR about 3 months ago. LOVING. EVERY. MINUTE. OF. IT. The ride is SO much better than the TJ was, and, like my other Jeeps, I just never get tired of driving it, and admiring it every time it's in view.

At least these refreshed models have the 2.0 in them. The old 2.4’s were awful. My wife almost bought one, but her VW Jetta seemed more spacious.

Does the Compass trailhawk come with a rear locker like the Cherokee had?
It has the 2.4. I searched but didn't see anything for a rear locker.

I've owned a lifted 2007 JKU for 13yrs now and added a 2023 Mojave to the herd this past Fall. I have a 2015 Camaro SS 1LE that I love, but the wife and I have struck up more conversations and gotten more complements on both jeeps than we have ever got in the Camaro.

I'll be hard pressed to not have at least one jeep in the corral until I'm too old to climb up into one. They are such fun vehicles. I'm not gonna say they are without their issues (although knock on wood, mine have been rock solid), but every brand is like that nowadays. Even Honda and Toyota are recalling vehicles now and they are supposed to be the pinnacle of no issues.

I feel like the folks that tend to buy jeeps and then drop the "good bye and good luck, I hate this jeep" threads are:

1. Folks that got a genuine lemon. I get it. It stinks.

2. Folks that get things ruined by bad dealer experiences.

3. Someone that didn't do their homework and realize owning a jeep isn't like owning a Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado, 4Runner, etc.

4. Someone with generally unreasonable expectations - IE, I want something that can run the Rubicon trail but also drives like a luxury barge on the road. Extra wind noise from removeable tops, etc.

Plus, let's face it. Whether it be forums, YouTube, Facebook, whatever: Negativity gets more attention and angry people posting. The fact we have more than one "positive, tell my why you love your jeep" threads on this forum alone is a good sign that most people get the jeep thing and love their rigs.

Well said. I couldn’t agree more.

We have always had some sort of open air capable ride. Wife totaled her Mustang convertible back in October so we went to the Ford dealership to order a ‘24 Bronco and this beautiful bright red ‘22 JT with mild upgrades was on the used lot. Bronco is 8 months out and we needed something fun to drive in the mean time. Test drove it and was pleasantly surprised at how refined it is. The last Jeep we had was a CJ5. We’ve already been on 2 badge of honor trails with it and flat towed it behind the MH to Big Bend National Park last weekend. It’s going to be hard to decide what to do when the Bronco finally arrives. I’d actually love to keep them both but probably not gonna happen on a welder’s salary lol.
Keep the Jeep. :). You’d need to do too much welding on the bronco. ?

I’d search for a pampered WK2 Trailhawk...
They’re so nice. My parents have one with a 5.7 and air suspension. Sweet ride.

This is my first Jeep, always wanted one.. Got talked out of buying CJ7 when I was 17, still regret that.
It is to date the best vehicle I've ever owned. Maybe not in resale value, MPG, or any measurable metric other than fun factor.
In March, it will be two years I've owned it and I haven't stopped smiling about it. It's been to 9 states with me already with plans to add 4 more this year.

Absolutely mirror this statement. The JT is an impressive vehicle and is the current off roading rig in the house, but our almost bone stock 02 TJ just brings the most smiles per mile every time I jump behind the wheel.

We've always been a Jeep family. From my '86 XJ to the current 2, we've modded every one of them and taken them on varying difficulty of trails. I think we have the perfect combo right now with the wife's '22 JLUR with full armor, 3.5" lift, and 39s and my '23 mojave with 2" lift and 37s. Both are plenty comfortable for long road trips which we do a lot (even more so after next week when we close on 40.5 acres in northern AZ about 550 miles from home). Where the JTM is limited on more technical trails due to its length, breakover, and departure angles the JLUR shines. Where the JL is limited in high speed bump handling in the desert, load/towing capacity, and the ability to fit bulky items the JT shines. Of all the Jeeps we've owned (20+) these are by far my 2 favorites.

I’ve had mine since Nov 20, 2020. It’s been near flawless. I “requested” the steering box “upgrade” and only true problem was the common rear locker sensor which was fixed under warranty. Other than that it’s routine maintenance, gas and go. This picture was from the first weekend I had her. This is over at Little River Canyon in Fort Payne, AL. I have had a TJ and WK prior. Waiting on Gecko Green to make a comeback on the wrangler and will get one when that happens.

I’ve seen a few negative posts about people’s jeeps lately, so I decided to flip things. I want to hear from people that genuinely can’t get enough.

I’m absolutely a car guy, and have enjoyed a wide variety of vehicle types over the years. This one is simply the best of everything. It doesn’t need to me logical or practical. It isn’t. That’s what makes it so perfect. Every single mile, from the most mundane visit to Lowe’s or to get a windshield chip repaired (Tuesday), is just amazing. After 48k miles, I still won’t remote start it without watching the lights blink. I’m sitting and watching it warm up over a cup of coffee as I type this.

Keep the Jeep joy coming.
I Absolutely love my Jeeps have had one since 15 usually a couple have 6 at the moment!! I've had Cj8,Cj7 Yj,Tj Jk, Jl's and now 2 Jt's both diesels I Absolutely love them!! I hear so much hate and complaining about the diesel but we have 4 3 Jt's including my son's and 1 Jlurd I have never enjoyed driving something as much I just can't say enough about the ecodiesel Jeep combination AWESOME . So love your Jeep even threw the the tough times or go buy a Tacoma ,Subaru or a Colorado Happy Jeepin

My wife gets mad because we never drive her car anywhere anymore except for long trips. I don’t think she is serious though—she loves my Jeep almost as much as I do. My dog may actually love it the most.
I have the perfect solutions for you worked awesome for me.... buy her one !! No more complaints except she always wants to take her Tuscadero pink Jlurd....and makes me drive lol ???
