Well I’m done waiting. I’m officially over the Jeep gladiator and going to become a KIA Telluride fan boy now.
I love jeeps, but not enough to throw down cash like that. That’s creeping up to raptor territory in a hurry. The ranger I currently have was my winter driver while my previous 05 TJR sat in the garage. Previous jeep had 24k miles on it and I had to sell d/t an upcoming wedding. I like my fiancé more haha. I’d love to have one, but I see the trends and they are going to piss us all off with the MSRP on these.
Which trends?

I’m a nurse and I am realistic about vehicle purchases lol. I’m thinking a vehicle that cost possibly a 1/3 of my home is a bit nuts. It’s nice to look at, but I’m not gonna be spending 45k for a base rubi JT if that’s what it comes in at. I’d rather have a ranger for far less than that.
Why not just buy a reasonably equipped Sport S then? No reason to abandon the JT altogether...

If a potential buyer makes 40k a year and they are buying a 50k dollar vehicle they missed a couple alegbra and life classes along the way. It’s gonna be an expensive truck, and we won’t know the price until we do.

So as a man in the 40K a year budget I paid $60 yes $60 for my wedding and reception. I did not sell anything and my wife was happy happy happy (Phil Robertson). How many algebra classes did I miss.?

I definitely missed every life class. Spent that time in the woods with my dad hunting rabbit and learning how to become a man.

$60.00 My brother preferred the wedding. He did a online thing? Went to the beach where I photograph wildlife. Had a reception at my place with chips and mechanically separated chicken sandwiches. BYOB and we live right up the street from a yearly festival that had all the food you wanted to buy if that was not you liking. $60.00 and no tips required.

I am so glad my wife is as cheap as I am :CWL:

google: how much should I spend on a car:

https://smartasset.com/auto/how-much-should-i-spend-on-a-car
https://www.moneyunder30.com/how-much-car-can-you-afford

Plenty of results. General rule of thumb. In order to afford a 50k vehicle, you should have a yearly salary of 150k. I imagine this knocks most of us out of the running (and puts current JLUR owners on the wrong side of the rule). So, sorry to say, but you all have been declined from the buying approval process. I guess I better get a pay raise or win the lottery.

See somebody finally read what I did hahaha. In all seriousness I hope the price isn’t as high as I think, but I’m hoping for the best expecting the worst.

I’d end up spending more on it to make it a Rubicon in the end anyway.

Yea there’s no way I could ever get away with that. I agree with everything you said tho. We have a budget of 25-30k for ours. That’s with everything included. It’s insane what it’s gonna cost but such is life. So I sold my mint TJ, and will have the wedding paid for. I want the gladiator, but I don’t want the possible price tag it might bring.

Too many factors to consider per person on a forum. Do your homework though. Each loan, total loans, credit rating, assets, household income, monthly expenses. I believe more in the 20% of take home figure, like on this page. $90,000 gross income, could buy a $60,000 car.

That probably wouldn't fly with financial advisors, as I think most would recommend a maximum car loan term of 36 months, not the 60 months in the article.

We need the Suze Orman show back with the Can I Afford segment. DENIED!

Dave Ramsey...if you can’t pay cash you can’t afford it. I need to quit reading his books lol.

I like that thinking better, cash only, though that won't work for most. I have been saving for so long that taking a chunk of money out of my account is going to hurt, but that's my plan. The Can I Afford It, uses an approach that applies to most: total income minus total debts, plus emergency fund, retirement savings and general savings, then your answer of Can I Afford it.
