Does anyone have this steering box from PSC? This is not the big bore box.
Before I purchase one, I was hoping someone could tell me their real world experience with it. Does it have any free-play/dead-spot like the factory boxes have?

Is your intent to add the hydro assist ram? I had a big bore box but also had a ram…. Hands down best steering out there. Do think I am doing my current Jeep differently in that I am going with a ported factory box with the psc ram. ( If you are just looking to upgrade and you haven’t smoked the factory box…)

I do understand that this wasn’t your question…. But it may offer a different idea, and save you some bucks. ;)

I have owned the big bore with the ram (JKU),and have driven a redneck ported box and a psc ram (JLU)….. will be going with the cheaper option.

I don’t intend to use a ram right now. You can just leave the ports plugged until needed. I’m on my 8th mopar/china made steering box. Every single one has had various amounts of play in it. 3 of the aluminum boxes and the rest steel. All shit right from the factory over there. All I want is a box with no play in it. Few years ago while waiting on one of the boxes to get swapped out (warranty work), I drove all 3 gladiators on their lot. 2 were sloppy like mine, but the 3rd had a steering box that was working they way they are all supposed to be….No play in it what-so-ever. I can’t imagine how much more enjoyable it will be to drive.
Before I spend $1400 on this box, I want to verify from someone who has it already.

Have you attempted to adjust the ones you've had?
I get the sense that these things are thrown together at manufacturing and probably given X mount of turns on the screw and loctited in.
One of the first things I did on mine was put about a quarter turn on the screw, after torching the loctite, and the improvement was appreciable.
With some other mods and more positive caster since then, it drives great now compared to where it was when I got it.

I'm still intrigued by these though, and like you, I will pay for better quality.

Which Big Bore fits the Gladiator?
Their cutoff is 2018 on them.

Yes, I have adjusted every box except the first 2. I paid my local dealer to ‘adjust’ the 3rd box, and they way overdid it. Once you overtighten that shit you can’t go back. The box I have in it now I installed myself and it’s the best one I’ve had so far with only 2” of dead zone, but it drives my friggin nuts.

The only other advice I would offer is to make darned sure that the gearbox is the only source for that loose feel.
I don't think it would be money to get a quality box, but it also needs to be linked to quality components. Trackbar, drag link, ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, caster, and all supporting braces and welds. Even the scrub radius plays a role.

My fixes for shitty handling, so far, have been tightening the gearbox play and mounting bolts, upgrading the stabilizer, sector shaft brace, proper torques, and positive caster via geometry correction brackets.
I am convinced that I have one of the best driving Mojaves on Earth now.

I have about 1200 miles on mine now and it’s much better than the stock box, no dead zone in the center anymore And no wandering on the highway. I tried to adjust the stock box a couple of times and never could get all of the play out of it.

I haven’t added the cylinder assist yet but I’m considering it.

Do you have any updates on this?
I have my sector shaft playing radially clunking inside the housing real bad and I’d like to upgrade.

I totally forgot. Lol
I got the box and the upgraded pump from PSC.
For the first time since I bought this JT new in 2019, there is no play/deadzone in the steering. It is so much more enjoyable to drive now. 🥳
