A couple weekends ago I smashed my transmission line while wheeling (skid plates are my next purchase now, lol). I had to get winched or get pulled off the trail to make room for others to get by and move to a safer location. When I lost enough trans fluid, the truck wouldn't engage in any gear and I couldn't even put it in Neutral, this is an automatic btw. And even though it wasn't engaged in any gear, it also did not roll freely. But when I pulled the cord behind the shifter to make it rollable, the engine would turn off. This essentially made my winch unusable since it would nearly drain the battery in about 10 seconds. This would also make it hard to get pulled out of the way because I would pull the cord to disengage the drivetrain, thus cutting off the engine and then losing power steering and power brakes.

Is there a way to pull the cord and keep the engine running so I can roll but still have power steering and brakes to safely get to a better location or use my winch to get out of the way?

Also, with trans in neutral but T-case in 4wd truck really doesn’t roll easily.

I'll have to look it up. I have a Tazer but once I haven't done much with it the last couple of years once I set up the options I wanted.

Put the trans in Park, and the transfer case in Neutral?
and this essentially the same as pulling the cord?
