Hi all - hoping to get some guidance on running 33s on a stock Willys. Would I need to (or should) I get the speedometer recalibrated? Or is coming from 32s such a small change where it wouldn't be needed? Was looking to do the Falken Wildpeaks LT285/70R17.

I saw a stock sport with 285 70r 17 Yokohama Geo Lander‘s they looked really good
33's are actually 32.8 and 32s are 32.2 . so i've read. there is another thread here somewhere here with that observation

I would use this website and it gives you a graph of what your actual speed would be compared to your speedometer. In my opinion/experience it won’t be great enough to throw off transmission shifts, so it would be up you if that discrepancy would bug you on the highway.

Many thanks - I will certainly give this a thorough review and some thought.

Me - I have an Overland. Most sites say the Duellers the Overland comes with are 32.2
I had a set of Rubicon take-offs. The Falken A/T tires everyone calls 33s.
The tire sites say those Falken A/T tires are 32.8
So if you consider THOSE TWO specific tires, then THAT 33 is actually 32.8
Another tire called a 33 may be different in reality.
In any case, any JT can run 'em and I found MY speedometer was spot-on after 17 miles with the Rubicon A/T tires on it.

I know this is on old post but I was wondering if you ever put the 33's on your stock Willys. If so did you experience any problems and did you have to add a leveling kit. I have a stock Willys and want to put 33's on mine.

The difference is negligible, you don’t need a leveling kit. I would consider leveling the front with 35s, and I ran 37s with just a level on mine before I lifted it.

I run 285/75r17's (34's) and have 2" of levelling. And that's only because I have a winch on the front. Before the winch, 1.5" of leveling was fine for me. I don't think you will need any levelling for 33's.

No need to do anything. 21 willys and I put Rubicon rims with the wild peaks right on. Maybe a 1 mile per hour difference indicated. Have since put a Rubicon suspension along with leveling kit up front and .75 spacer in the rear. Looks much better. Will likely go with some 34" tires on when the wild peaks wear out
