What trails would the hive suggest for a rainy day in Moab? Would it make Hell´s Revenge more difficult or too difficult? Or does it not really have much effect?

What other trails would be good in the wet?

It´s looking like about a 50% chance of rain, last I saw.

What about Top of the World?

I was thinking a moderate trail or mildly difficult rated trail would have increased challenge in the wet?

Tips are appreciated!

The rain makes it a little more difficult but it's not bad, there's so much traction in moab. I'd skip the trails that can get muddy like Kane creek but otherwise you'll be OK. We ran the trifecta (poison spider, golden spike, and gold bar rim) on a decently rainy day without issues. Showers were heavy at times but off and on.

Top of the world and Porcupine Rim are a bit more challenging in rain. Slickrock isnt bad in the rain.

was there a creek running through the golden crack when it was raining? Trifecta is a commitment. we did that thinking we would start at noon and end poison spider at 4. we got off the trail at 2 am

It depends on how much rain, even the highways become impassible during flash floods, but a little rain helps keep the dust down. If heavy rains are expected it’s best to stay out of the back country, go do Fins n Things near town.

Some of the washes crossed in this video are miles from the canyons and mesas, don’t think being out in the open desert makes you safe. The silty soil (and especially the bentonite layer) turns to wet snot in the wet.

This flooding was just a couple weeks ago. Watch the weather, watch the sky, be safe.

Edit: the recovery of the Gladiator stuck in the wash just posted:

Not at golden Crack, but later towards the end of gold bar we got heavier rain and there was some standing water and streams heading back towards the road by Gemini bridges. I think it was a 10hr day for us, but we start early and with just the wife and I keep a pretty good pace.

I was there last week and ran Fins N Things, Hells Revenge, and Metal Masher in the rain. The first two were no problem, and it was a light rain during Metal Masher, which was pretty cool as we even saw a waterfal, but I wouldn’t do that one in a heavy rain. We also did Lost World right after rain and it was fine.

We wound up doing Hell´s Revenge. The rain was not hard, but more than a sprinkle. It was fun. It made the tipover challenge really hard, though, as it had not only water, but also mud on it from some other Jeeps, so we couldn´t get the traction to get up the second step on it. It got hairy going sideways, so we leveled out and drove off to the right, and got back on the trail. Otherwise, it really made for some amazing views. The slick rock in the distance looks white and there was a gorgeous waterfall in the distance. My wife took a pic of the waterfall but I think my brother took a better one. I´ll try and get it.

How's that Colorado doing?

My hope of running over on Saturday is looking unlikely.

Last week I had 15T (12.8yds) of gravel dropped and I'm thinking they gave me 15yds since I've done the main project (200' sidewalk verge), used up the leftover for a trailer parking area along the house (25'x7') and a short path (6'x4'), and I still have about 3yds left. Since the trailer parking area project got thrust into action, now I need to redo the sprinkler system. Typical domino yardwork problems.

The Colorado is doing really well! The biggest thing is the lack of visibility, but the cameras go a long way to make up for it. Also, it can´t keep all 4 planted like the Jeeps, but it seems to do better than any other IFS rig I have seen.

Probably the most impressive thing is that it is a factory ordered truck with zero additional mods. I don´t know why Jeep doesn´t offer a 35¨ package with the Gladiator. You can walk into a Chevy dealer and drive it straight off the lot to the best Moab trails. (If you can find one. LOL). They also did the right thing going with AEV. Those boron steel skid plates on that Colorado are the real deal. Where the Colorado has its biggest advantage is running faster on the whoops, washboards, etc. The shocks are just incredible.

It´s fun to see people react to seeing it on the trail. They´re surprised and think it has been modded.

I´m impressed.

The 35" tire package on the JLs is unimpressive anyway as the only option is the crap KO2s. 35s fit no problem on a stock rubicon or mojave and you can pick from the dozens of tires that are far better than the KO2. For what Jeep would charge you can easily swap in really good shocks and the 35s of your choice. I know a lot of people are hung up on factory options, but the aftermarket will almost always do it better in my experience. And even if you go all the way to 37s you don't have to give up a huge chunk of the bed space to the spare.

The KO2 is hardly a crap tire, but like any tire, it isn’t suited to every use or environment.

it’s also out of production

I haven't found a worse AT on or off road. Wet traction is as bad as most modern MTs on road. Mud and deep snow traction is atrocious. Sure they work in moab when it's dry, but so do car tires or even drag slicks when you're driving on 40 grit sand paper. Hopefully the KO3s are significantly better.

Yeah. Even with experienced drivers, I wouldn’t start the trifecta much later than 8am.

Definitely not a crap tire. Just small for my taste.
