Again, i am through worrying about any of this ? i got an extended warranty to 100k and i honestly believe the issue will manifest itself if its actually a mechanical issue down the road before 100k miles. And i will be estatic to get a new enigine at 90k miles then now at 7k miles.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of gas mileage are you getting? Is it bad?

I called a different dealer because my exhaust intermittently smells like sulfer or rotten eggs and the tech said try a different type of gas. He said its normal for the gladiator to do that depending on what brand gas youre using??? He stated he drove a few that had the same smell? All the research i have done states that this isnt normal. I also told him im barely getting 13mpg and he said thats normal too? I asked if theres anyway i could be running rich and he said if i were the cel would be on. Basically, they are going to say any issue is normal unless a code is thrown.
My overland still gets over 20 mpg average (20.6 currently) most of the time running whatever gas is cheap and close.
I have gone to the garage, started my truck, realized I forgot something (that's ADHD, happens almost daily) and I run back to the house, come back out to my running truck in the garage - NO smell at all.
Difference gas doesn't give different exhaust smells (unless you use E85 etc.)

@SelfmodJT I don't mind getting this all on record in the time being. I still go out and enjoy the truck. For MPG - It can range between 13-15mpg city & 16/17 hwy.
Def sould get it on rec, especially if youre not getting an extended warranty. If you have it all on rec and they say you have an issue when youre warranty is over at 62k miles, atleast you have proof all the other times they stated it was normal.

So we both have crappy gas milelage ?

I REALLY REALLY honestly wish just one of these, especially this one, was close to me. I'd invite the dealer to drive my JT, and the owner of the above JT to drive mine and listen.
Mine has been quiet - no ping. I've owned and driven vehicles that ping. I've test driven vehicles that ping. I know I'm old and decrepit (64 and falling apart) but I'd like to think I can still hear a ping, I KNOW my wife would hear it if it existed.

I'd like to add this thought - and DAVE, a real JT tune EXPERT can correct me if I'm wrong here - and if I'm wrong I hope he DOES correct this thinking -
Adding octane booster isn't likely to have as much impact instantly as it would after driving around a while. I mean, if they add the booster then take it right out for another drive - I have doubts about that sort of difference that fast. After driving a while, perhaps........... but instantly?
I also used to use octane booster in my 70 Javelin with a mild 390 and the can of booster said "raises octane 1 point etc etc etc" and we figured - you'd have to add a lot to get from 87 to 89, for example.

Plenty of rigs in the group down here in SoCal are dead silent compared to mine. I'm just glad the dealer is acknowledging the issue's. Each time I have had something replaced. The latest being the pulley and tensioner. Don't believe it helped anything with this particular issue but glad it was found before I was left SOL while exploring with the family.

As stated shawdow, the tech, who seemed like an older guy with experience said certain additives can cause that smell. I dont believe him but he also said a few gladiators he has seen produced the smell with no potential issues. What do i say to that, lol? But if that was the case, shouldnt it smell constantly and not intermittently? After all, its burning the same fuel every second.

Of course not but would it be asking too much to get expected advertised mpg? Im asking about the mpg because it might have something to do with the pinging. After all, a pinging engine is not an efficient engine.

So far so good here. 89 / 5w-30 / mishimoto. 18.5 mpg city/suburb (no highway) on 33's / 3.73's. Rare light LSPI - dramatically reduced from previous

i just re-routed my "dirty" catch can line. I noticed that it had a "trap" behind the engine where the line dipped down and then came back up to the can. Not sure if that makes a difference, but a trap in the line can't be a good thing. I routed it higher so that the line goes up from the pcv valve, peaks at the coolant tank, and then comes down to the catch can

Would you even need a catch can if the pcv valve was in a better spot from the factory? Mite be a dumb question, but isn’t it located in pretty much the worst spot possible? Back of the engine and behind the valve cover (not on top of it). Mine as well put it on the flippin oil pan. Lol

I would think that once the octane booster had spread around the gas tank and the mixed gas made its way to the injectors, it would be instant. So maybe 15 miles. I doubt a flat rate tech is going to drive around for 15 miles to troubleshoot. They don't get paid to troubleshoot.

I notice a bunch of clatter at low RPMs when I have the doors off, but can’t hear any of it with my doors on. Are those of you hearing the rattles/pinging hearing it with your doors on and/or windows up? Do any of you who don’t hear it drive with your doors off?

Honestly, i think a lot of people might have pinging and not realize it because they never have the doors off or the windows down. Of course its more noticeable withouts the doors but you can hear it with the windows down if youre listening for it. I doubt you can hear it with the windows up unless your pinging is constant and not intermittent.

I've had doors off (not lately) and windows down (off and on through the year)
My vehicles that DID ping - you absolutely heard it with the windows up (and of course they had no removable roof) which begs the question - if you can't hear it windows up and roof on - how loud is it really? These are NOT well insulated vehicles! Road noise is crazy in these compared to many other vehicles. There's just not a lot of structure and no thick walls and insulation between you and the outside world.
So if you can't hear it roof on - how loud IS it really, honestly?

Honestly, i think a lot of people might have pinging and not realize it because they never have the doors off or the windows down.
My wife likes windows up, I like windows down, especially when the air is cool or not so humid. So the windows have been down lately. I had windows down part of the way towing earlier this month - I'd expect pulling almost 5,000 pounds up a hill at low speeds with the RPM around 1800-2200 RPM I'd hear it if it existed.

We've had a number of Grand Cherokees with the 3.6
This is the first "non Grand Cherokee" with the 3.6
