Diesels have more torque so if the 4.88s work well which they do on my 3.6L JT than I wouldn’t think you need anything different. And like Flu said, that pinion gear starts getting pretty Small after 4.88s
4.10 or 4.56 max

Even though they have more torque its still working every bit as hard to turn the wheels. The ratio would remain the same as a gas powered engine.
Power band is totally different. 4.88 is good for 40s with the diesel, 5.13 would maybe be better with 40s and towing.

I agree.....which is exactly how I would gear my gas powered JT on 40s. 4.88s for normal use and 5.13 if I were regularly towing.

The additional torque provided by the diesel does not change the ratios that work with the differential gearing.

4.88 on 40s with the v6 is a mismatch.

I imagine a lot of people aren’t going to touch the 3.73 gearing with the diesel on 37s as it’ll perform much better than 4.10s and 37s behind the V6 and for some reason people seem to be ok with that.

evo mfg told me that theyre recommending the following for diesels after having built 15 of them

37s forever 4.10
38s 4.56
40s 4.88 With 4 to 1 or 5.13 with 2.72 tcase but only with 60 swaps due to pinion weakness

I wouldn't say its a mismatch but its definitely on the low end. I personally wouldn't spend the money and do 4.88 when 5.13s are the same price. A ton of people running 37-40 are running 4.88s though I believe.

I have 37's on my gas JT now and have ordered 5.13s for it. When my diesel gets in I plan to run 38s or 40's and will also be putting 5.13s on it. I do a ton of towing anywhere from 3-5500 lbs. So for me its the way to go.
