Where are you finding Gorilla glass for $195?
My guess - that was the prior factory option price - the additional charge.
He's saying it's now 500, implied it used to be 195
Can't confirm that was ever the price.

I just went on line and built my JT again. The price is the same. And the Gorilla Glass is still $195.00.

Why are you using Costcoauto to build and price? I just used the same specs as I did on the jeep.com build tool and it showed "msrp" ~$3,000 more via costco for the same options.

That was the cost of the option when it first appeared on 2021s.
I see now, reading is hard :)

$195 is a steal, aftermarket has it for $1000!

Just a little warning on that "build your own" site - it can be wrong. We've shown that over the last couple of years. Sometimes you can build with an option or combination but it can't actually be ordered that way, and they don't always keep prices up to date...... it's a guide at best. Only the dealer's system shows what can and can't be ordered as it goes direct. The consumer version is more "what-if" and "this would be close", IMO.

But- who the heck knows where the OP's stuff came from. It was more like a "they need to make these cheaper so I can have one, too" thing than anything else, again, IMO.
It's crazy on some of the FB pages out there for classic and collector cars - the AMC Eagle people are the absolute worst in the world for bitxx'n about prices. They want their car to be worth something, but gripe if prices go up and heaven help anyone who posts a car for sale at a top price out there -they'll be ripped to shreds and accused of being on crack. (by people who have no intent of buying anyway) I'll give my car away before I ever sell it to any joker on fakebook who gripes about prices.
My JT was a real stretch for me, too - I could barely afford it. My garage is crap, I live in a 1,000 square foot house with small rooms, almost but never quite hit that 6 figure salary and for 6 years showed 0 income at all. For a few years my salary was a whopping 13K.
In fact, if it wasn't for my selling one of my prized cars and my father having died and us brothers getting a hell of a surprise he had saved for us - I'd still have an ordinary truck. I had to save and arrange things just to buy better winter tires. But I'm not going to complain that Jeep is ripping people off. Choices - I made mine and paid for it (and will be paying for it as long as I own it, dang it - they need to stop making accessories for these things!)
Choices.
I'll moan and groan oh, I want one too! I want what they have! But inside, I know that's not always possible and I can't belittle those who do have. (I'll simply enjoy looking and drool)

I had wondered that, too - why not go to the SOURCE???? why use some third party - costco of all things.
Jeep doesn't even always keep current with that consumer build your own jeep interface, how could anyone else?

I built my JT 3 times on line before I ordered it. The first 2 times, everything stayed the same. The 3rd time, some items went up in price. That's the price I paid. The gorilla glass was $195 all 3 times. After I ordered. For shits and giggles. I built it a couple more times. The gorilla glass went up in price to $295, then came back down to $195. Never seen it above $295. I wanted the spray in bed liner. The site shows it as an option. Same for the headliner. Can't get either one. Some items was lumped together in different package too. Which saved some money.

Back in 2020, the 2021 model year Grand Cherokee showed a matching wheel full sized spare with tow package. Guess what didn't come - the matching wheel and yet every other Grand Cherokee we had of the WK2 platform had a fully matching spare tire and wheel. The build-your-own was incorrect apparently (or they ran out of wheels!)
It's generally close, but not always perfect.

Now it's a supply chain issue. You'll get it if we have it. If not, you may get something else or nothing at all.

I agree!

Costco Auto Program is kind of a lazy persons program. It really does nothing other than give ball park estimates with usually out dated data. They only take your dream sheet and pass it off to a participating dealer that "agrees" in principle to try and get or order a vehicle for the stated Costco pricing and not do any of the "dealer add on" junk.

A Costco Auto Program buyer is not going to lock in a price and then think they can negotiate below that when the vehicle comes in.

Even their disclaimer on the program web page says it basically does nothing for you and everything is between you and the dealership for final pricing.

Costco and its affiliates do not sell automobiles or negotiate individual transactions. All vehicles arranged for sale are subject to availability and a price prearranged with the participating franchised dealer. A participation fee has been paid by the dealers participating in the Costco Auto Program. Certain vehicles may be excluded from the program. Actual savings may vary based on vehicle purchased, dealer and location. All information and vehicle data available on this website has been provided by reputable third parties. Costco Auto Program, Costco Wholesale, Affinity Development Group and its subsidiaries make no implied guarantees or warranties to this data.

In a way, it's like those coupon sites - stores sign up, pay a fee, it's a marketing thing that drives customers their direction.

This is the clue here -
and a price prearranged with the participating franchised dealer
Participating dealer, prearranged, but it's going to be subject to change.
Costco is making a bundle on this because dealers pay to be part of it. If they aren't participating in the Costco program, they ain't gonna honor the pricing and Costco's site isn't directly linked to Jeep so who knows how fresh or how old the info is.
it's a Costco money grab, IMO and more and more consumers eat this stuff up.

Pre Covid, it was kind of a semi-decent program to participate in when pricing was stable and allowed some savings but was never a bottom dollar deal one could get if they wanted to negotiate.

It just made the participating dealership happy because it drove a high probable buying customer into their lap and the dealership just promised to Costco they would not rip the tits off the customer with markups and add-on's.

LOL. Because he bought a Costco membership. This is probably going to be the thread on “the last Jeep he’ll never own.” ?
