Loading our 150# newf has become a chore. When he DOES get in on his own, it is painful to watch. When we help him up, it is literally painful on my back! There just isn't a lot of room on the floor behind the seat for him the clamber up, and the seat is too high for him to jump. The back door being so narrow doesn't help, I'm sure. Neither do the taller tires (sorry, pup), which put the door at 27" and the seat at 36".

So, looking at ramps and steps. All kinds of choices. Most seem too wide for the space. As mentioned above, the door just doesn't open wide, and is narrow to boot. Height doesn't seem a problem. Getting to 27" would let him step up to the seat, and would actually be the same height as our other sport-ute's rear hatch.

Not pulling the rear seat, as we use the under-seat storage and my kiddo sits back there (yes, with the dog - they snuggle). The back seat actually works fine once he is up.

Unloading would certainly be easier on his joints with a step or ramp. He can kamikaze out today, but it is more of a belly flop.

Guessing this would be easier door-less. Still a bit chilly here in the midwest for that.

So, has anyone found the ultimate solution?

Pic for attention:

Interested in this also. I can't find what I was looking for either. Have a big GSD that I'm tired of lifting. He can jump ok, but I'm lifted 4" on 37's, so it's a big jump. I was looking at welding something up that hooks to the sliders along with a bracket that fits in the bed for storage.

I'd look into investing in a Frenchie

In all seriousness, I've got to believe someone out there has done something along the lines of what you're looking for. As soon as they do, I'm gonna have to start looking into the same thing for my wife! I have a step stool that's connected to a rope at the moment but it gets a little annoying at times. Also, I refuse to pay thousands of dollars for powered steps, so there's that.

Because of the funky door shape we have a narrow ramp that works with the door disconnected from the mechanism and the limiter strap. Dog, 145lbs, doesn't love it. I reckon a simple single or double step would be best that sits onto the rock sliders. Needs to be wide enough and compact.
We removed the seats. No idea how your newf does it.
Jumping in is fine, but jumping down often is really bad and will wear joints... so need to find a wide enough solution thats compact

I’ve got a set of foldable steps that I use, rated for 200lbs if I recall. They work great for our 100lber.

Dan, are you using this for the rear door? I have a similar ramp, that I use for the bed, but it’s too wide for the rear door.

I purchased some cheap “extended” limiting straps from Amazon for the doors, but they actually ended up being shorter than what is on the rear door stock. If I could get the rear door opened more, the ramp I have might work.

My dog put the only dent into my jeep the first week I owned it by jumping in the back door. Paintless Dent Repair was able to get it probably 90% out. Now I load them through the front door or carry them in the back. I am actually building a "dog box" for the back of my Gladiator using a Rebel Offroad Xplor Rack and the new Molle Rear Hatch Door. I installed a BedRug and am just waiting on the door now..

We bought a ramp something like this for our 100lb husky mix. It was narrow enough to fit into the back door of my Nissan Frontier (my dog park and hiking truck). The on problem was he would still slip on the traction surface, so we super glued old carpet on the surface for better traction.

My door opens all the way touching the front door. Just unhooked all, Cable is long enough, just don't let it slam ;)

That was kind of what I was picturing. I was hoping I could make something a little more compact when folded, but I might buy one of those for now either way. Thanks for that.

I got really good use out of this collapsible step for my Doberman. She could navigate them pretty easily with a little guidance.
That looks great.
Will see if I can find something similar in EU

They also look pretty cool, would buy them for the rear, but again, shipping and import, will have to look at what Amazon sais.

We have this one
Jeep Gladiator Rear door dog step/ramp 1679520038637

Our dog doesn't like it, very narrow and the angle is very steep

For the bed. Sorry.
