Need help, my sliding window in the hard top broke. Jeep dealer is telling be over $1,000 for a replacement (parts ony) and saying I can not buy just the sliding window but have to buy the entire rear window with embedded sliding window.

Anyone know where to order it? part number? or ease of replacement?

Thanks.

Maybe try a glass shop? They might be able to fabricate one for you...

Would your insurance cover this? That’s pretty steep for a small window. Especially since it isn’t even a power window.

Yeah, the parts breakdown just shows the whole back window as one part. So your dealer is not lying. The sliding piece also has the defrost grid circuit in them so just getting a piece of stock glass cut by an independent glass shop will not bring that function back.

I did run a Safelite quote and they came back as $900 installed for me so that may save you a few hundred off the dealership.

Unless you can find a junkyard take out, I do not think you are going to find any significant cost savings.

I checked on a replacement back glass too not needing it. Almost as much as a complete H. Top. I about went in to shock when I seen that.

That’s nuts. I’m bubble wrapping that entire window ASAP.

I ran into this a couple years ago on my Ram. The local glass shops basically said the same thing about having to buy the whole 900.00 rear window. I ended up finding a guy online out of Michigan that sent me the piece for the middle, for under 150 including shipping! I’ll try to find his info. But yes it sucks that a small piece of glass is so dang high!

Only reason I knew the cost of it was a buddy asked me if I had priced out a replacement glass, so I did. If anyone needs to replace glass and few other parts it's cheaper to order whole hardtop.
I "made" a temporary rear window for my LJ hardtop out of lexon years back after having # 3 shattered. I'd look at having a tinted piece cut to fit of Lexon or Speedglass if not able to find OEM glass window. If I ever need to I'd be hard pressed not to install tinted Lexon permanently.

Had the same issue. Hopefully enough people actually report their issue so jeep can fix it. Was driving down the highway with the freedom panels off when the back sliding glass exploded out of nowhere. No rocks or anything. Just blew up. At the time I was less than 12,000 miles. Also I found that not the back is leaking water due to a poor seal against the body.
