I am replacing my factory JTM bumper with a factory steel JTR bumper. What issues will I face? Also, I am going to install a badlands 12K winch, what would be a good winch plate for this install. I am looking at the Harbor Frt. universal plate. Good idea or not?

Your fog lights will need adapters to go from factory plastic to factory steel bumpers.

If you are going to use your existing fog lights, you'll have to tear down the bumper to get the harness out, it's not what I would call fun.

Spend the money, get the Warn winch plate.

The Harbor Freight is not going to fit proper. Either contact Metalcloak, Artec, Roughcountry, or even Ebay to drop in factory style. It will fit and look so much better.

The winch will require a small trim to the top of bumper. You can do this with a jig saw, cut off wheel on the ground before you install bumper. In fact it's almost easier to assemble everything on ground in front of vehicle then grab a helper to put in place. The winch bolts in the mounting plate become a bit hidden depending after the fact.

The plate will assemble and you can snug it in place with the oem nuts from your oem bumper. Touch up edges where you cut, nobody will know but you.

The oem harness comes out of your original bumper with a bunch of 7mm bolts, power screw driver makes quick work of this, then undo some xmas tree retainers, not a big deal.

Helps if you have the plugs from original fogs, you will just solder or weather proof butt splice/crimp these connections.

You said it brother! Serious PITA. I had thought about salvaging the JTM bumper but after all that I said eff it.

I didn't install the JTR Metal as much as I wanted to. I ended up installing the Rock Hard 4x4 aluminum so I could have integrated tow points for the RV. Unfortunately there isn't a real great way to secure the fog light wire harness from side to side.

Will be dropping a winch in today. Off topic. Sorry OP.

These responses are awesome. The new / takeoff bumper already have the factory fog lights installed so no issue there as far as I can see. Doing the trimming on the ground is a great idea.
I will look at the warn winch plate.
Old bumper in dumpster is the plan since it was the victim of a deer suicide this past summer in Moab!!!!

I've never hit a deer....knock on wood....but I really don't understand how an animal that flinches at the mere sound of a twig being stepped on would allow itself to be smashed by a huge lumbering vehicle that it can easily see and hear coming from far away.

Getting the harness out isn’t hard. You’ll pull about 15-20 push pin/clip things.

list the bumper on marketplace for $100 and let it sit. You’ll sell it in 6 months to a year (mine went to someone who got in a fender bender and needed an insurance replacement)

bracket for the lights.

an extra set of hands helps lifting the steel number into place.

That's because how it normally happens is they are on the side of the road, usually multiple deer, and they bolt across the road when the vehicle gets close. Because deer will travel together, they all follow the first deer and one usually catches the third or fourth one as they are crossing. The timing in which they bolt across the road is such that you have almost no time to react or their location makes it better to hit the deer than try to avoid them and end up off the road in a worse place.

That and they tend to freeze in lights, so they’ll go to cross then just stop (also why spotlighting is illegal)
