I personally would do without the windows. Not sure they add much value to the function but maybe some light and / or air.

Overall it is built heavy duty (a good thing). Some minor fitment issues in the front that can be overcome by bending some flanges 1/4 inch or so.

I also had some weatherstripping along the front edge of the bed from my hard tonneau cover which was an advantage to making a good deal. Others may need to add something there. It could be ok without as there is a heavy rubber seal on the bottom of the canopy all the way around.

Too soon to say what I’d change. Overall I think it is nearly what I expected and the function will overcome any flaws I find along the way.

At that time the whole canopy was sticking out over the end of the bed. It needed to move forward about a 1/4-1/2 inch. I'll probably cut it off again. We tried bending it but it was not enough.

Thx, I definitely like the fact that you have 6 bolt holes. They are not threaded?

The holes are not threaded. You can punch that plug out. I didn't use them when I installed rails.

Yeah, cutting it off would make more sense. I was in a hurry and didn't want to mess with it. I may do this another time when I have it off and hanging but it worked to bend them back a bit for me for now.

Did you have to drill the JT at all or were you able to use the holes in canopy and the rails?

I ended up drilling my own holes. Rails on the canopy were too high with the towers and a rack. I ended up drilling into the far sides of the canopy to get as low profile as possible. A roof top tent up there is very high and top heavy.

The idea I had to account for that was to build my own rack out of 80/20... You can mount some wide slats directly to the roof supported with thick square washers underneath which would easily support an RTT and awning while only adding an inch to the height.

IMO a full rack just for an RTT is adding a lot of extra weight up top for no added value.

Your right. The air springs on my suspension help with the weight. I looked at 80/20 but I found a good deal on the Pioneer rack and I made the purchase. When my Gen 2 gets here I figure out a better low profile option. I just don't think the preexisting holes will line up exactly with the Pioneer rails.

The “rack” I had in mind would mount directly on top using those holes to secure it, I was thinking on a minimalist approach but still having the ability to mount a side awning and or lights to the side of the rack, so 1 or 2 inch thick with just a few bars would be fine

Totally agree. I like the idea of a platform, but its a ton of weight with zero real benefit when you're using it for a RTT. Crossbars are a way better option, just less "overlandy".
