Installed rock hard lower control arm frame side skids today. Anyone that has purchased knows there’s nothing difficult to the driver side. However, depending on your vehicle the passenger will need some trimming.
I was able to trim a good bit from the gas tank skid. I also trimmed the skid itself. I used various small metal cutting tips on the pencil dremel to allow for reach.
moused an angle grinder for the skid and finished with a dremel. Rustoleum black to all bare surfaces.
The first pick I show I placed a screwdriver between the tank and skid so I wouldn’t hit the tank by accident. I quickly realized I didn’t need it. I just frequently he led my progress.
The next pic shows the line I chose to cut. The rest is the trim to the skid plate and then final figment. Still some contactat the tip but not a concern unless there is movemyand noise when driving.
You may think it’s dangerous to grind near the tank but no issues. Issues usually occur due to fumes notgas. I hadn’t filled lately and no obvious leaks or fumes. My dad was a bloody man. And I’ve welded and had gas tanks welded when I was younger. Would never encourage anyone else to do this but if someone is going to install these and needs to trim I hope it’s helpful.
