Exactly. I had to use one of my step bits to drill some plastic recently. I had the same problem. I just clamped wood underneath. It worked great. No need to have a hole. The bit will just continue through.
I ended up having to hole saw the back board. At 240 rpms, there wasn't enough juice to cut through it. It would just stop and slip the belt.

First cap is made. I'm not going to get one installed today, since I don't want to mess with the epoxy more than once, but this is the general idea. I'll center the cap and tape it in place for the epoxy.

I'm pleased with it so far. The video of the JL member shows him using gloss caps, but I'm much happier with the satin finish. There is no discernable difference in the Rock Trix cap and Jeep cap.

Ahhhh, now I see, you just wanted a countersink to lay the Jeep cap in.

It looks perfect. Great work. It’s the little things that make these Jeeps our own.

And I’m glad the bit worked for you. I bought mine for a weirdo project and haven’t needed one that big since. But for the price, I have zero regrets.

Absolutely! My Commander won best in show at a Mopar show years ago. I hope to take another win with this one!

Absolutely, well worth the price! Thank you for the recommendation :fist bump:

I miss my commander.
Mine needs some work, but I could never get rid of it. Solely because my wife would never let me; she trusts her life with it in the snow/rain. I was more comfortable as well driving it this last snow storm we had.

I had a 2007 with the little 4.7 v8. It towed great and drove wonderfully. It developed the killer ac problem where heat came out due to the flapper getting stuck. I just didn’t want to dismantle the entire dash, and it got traded for a grand Cherokee. I should have fixed it and kept it.

Yeah I have the 5.7 with the QDII, tow a lot with it and take it camping when it's decent weather. We throw down the back 2 rows and fit a full-size air mattress in it

It would be such a nice vehicle with the 5.7.

The other 3 caps went a lot smoother once I got the press set up properly. All of them are taped up ready to go. One issue dawned on me as I was prepping the caps for epoxy that I don't think the JL member had considered. I slung tires as a teenager for about a year and I remembered how I normally popped the caps out: I would turn over the pry bar and use the handle to quickly push on the center of the cap from the back. In his video he only put a dab on the tabs of the inner Jeep cap. I decided that wasn't going to be enough for a tire tech the likes of me not to knock the Jeep center cap out of of the larger Rock Trix cap. So I decided as I got the epoxy mixed to fill it up past the tabs to completely encompass the interior. Took a whole tube, so I'll be out tomorrow getting more to finish this up.

This one below is the last cap that I reamed out, and surely broke one of the tabs off. Should have taken just a tad more out before I tried popping it in :headbang:
