Rotors and Pads VS Big Break Kit

My pads are starting to wear and im a little over 40k miles. I have been debating on whether I should just do a rotor and pad upgrade (eg Powerstop Z36) or spending the extra few hundred dollars for a front BBK and just a replacement out back.

Any feed back on Baer, Alcon, Teraflex, etc kits? Is it worth it? Does the rotor and pad upgrade make a huge difference?

If you want to do just do pads, try the the ECB Orangestuff pads. You will notice a big difference. The Baer 6 piston Brake kit would be amazing, providing you have 18” wheels.

A BBK kit will set you back over $2K just for the fronts. I have the EBC Yellowstuff pads on my Grand Cherokee and Power Wagon. Love them. I don't know if you can get them yet for the JT.

But $1700 is still a hefty price ?

otherwise, if you can lock up your stock brakes, a BBK or “performance” rotors won’t do any thing.

with 35” tires I can lock up and/or get abs to kick in. I suspect stock brakes will handle 37s the same.

Check out this video of a 392 on 37s where they upgraded the front brakes to an APB kit, definitely make a difference in stopping distance, the second video shows the additional improvement by adding the rear kit. Pretty sure the 392 has the same brakes as the JT.

Stock rotors in this environment tend to warp a bit at an early age. Those never did. I haven’t put them on my JTR yet, but will as soon as these are ready to be replaced, or start to warp. Nice kit with permanently attached pad shims. Easy install. Not a sound out of them, and I’m super picky. No excessive dust either from these pads. I have no experience with big brake kits though.

This is exactly what I was looking for - I was pretty upset that these started to chirp as soon as they did. I did not want to spend $500 for all four corners and end up in the same situation.

It’s what I’ll do as soon as I feel a warp. I don’t care if I have enough meat to turn them. The 7% grades here kill standard brakes. And I’m one who always down shifts before braking. Still. They take a beating and warp way before their time. Drilled and slotted with carbon ceramic pads seems to fix it very well.

APB has 2 kits.
The APB 6 piston brakes takes a 20" wheel. And is front only. The 6 piston kit is $3,199.00.

I would stay away from drilled rotors. As they have a habit of cracking at the holes.
