Is this still under warranty?
i wonder how long the dealer turn around time will be before the owner can get back onto trail and try the trip again!

4 months, 3 days, 22 hours, 17 minutes. For Jeep to deny the warranty claim.

Because the FAD is a well-known weak point on these axles, dealerships are very familiar with these breaks. They will almost certainly argue that the axle did not fail due to a manufacturing defect, but rather because it was subjected to forces it was not designed to handle.

I put trusses on mine after I saw this one in Moab. I never want to be in that situation. I like the FAD keeping front end parts from spinning down the highway and being able to cheat with caster but would much rather locking hubs. Tons one day.

a few m8 bolts isn't going to hold a casting together.....
No, of course not. But could it prevent a direct hit that could cause that weld to go tits up?

Nah this was from an extreme force. since there is no truss to counteract and add rigidity, you'd still get the same result.

Yeah. I don't think I want to drop the front end of my JT off a 4-5ft vertical anytime soon.

Retired. Finally !!
Is this a perfect example of the very old joke:

Patient: Doc, it hurts when I do this (swinging his arm in a windmill motion).
Doc: Then don't do that.

If you pushed your Jeep past what is was structurally designed to do, and something broke, is it the Jeep's or the drivers fault ?

If that Jeeper was with my buddies, right after the axle split from doing too hard a drop, one of my buddies would be standing there saying, "Yeeeeaaahh, ya probably shouldn't have done that." or "you shoulda held onto your own beer, not tell him to hold it.".

My Dad would be standing there saying, "So....what'd we learn ??".

I've seen and read many a Jeep ad in my years, but never did I see "indestructible" or "able to leap tall buildings" mentioned.

Sure, claims of "It's not my fault, it's Jeeps poor metal/welds/construction !!" will come instead of taking any personal responsibilities for doing something you most likely shouldn't have. Claims of, "It should be able to handle ____ !!" Well, the evidence proves otherwise. It can't. Unless YOU make the mods for it to do what you want, you have no one to blame but yourself. Lord know there are enough options out there......
