Mule Expedition Outfitters had (have?) one of the Deluxe Weekender Norweld trays in stock and ready to install. It's a beautiful piece of metal art, includes a rear sliding tray, a 40+ liter water tank, 2 spare tire mounts. They are offering a nice discount on it (about 1/2 off) - as it's the first one. (usually it's over $10k + install)

Mainland Overland on the east coast had (have?) a tray AND canopy that were demos - also ready to install and offered at a really good price (way under $20k, usually $22k)

What better way to Pigeon-Hole that new Gladiator into a One-Trick-Pony Rig ! Oh, but wait . . . I forgot he has that 4 spot garage with the intricate lift system in bay #4 where he can remove, lift & store in the overhead . . . . at a whims notice !  . . . please honey, if you love me you won't :brokenhearted: !

just got this from RSI too now keep in mind TIME TABLES CHANGE, DON'T HOLD THEM TO THIS, but....

"We just received the CAD data yesterday (for Gladiator RSI products). The SmartCap EVO and EVOc will be available around February/March, and the SmartTray variants I would expect to see May/June-ish."
If I may toss in some re-thought gibberish here . . . I can confirm this and am expecting some email feedback (I hope, as I put myself "on the list for) . I'm starting to re-consider the Cap Only + removable tent option (again) ! What I really am liking here is RSI ALSO does Full Sized Trucks, and it's that info I'm hoping for in regards to the DT 1500, + of course the Glad. . I'm not sure as to wether I like the Regular EVO or the EVOc ? Wouldn't mind having the EVO with the Security glass on the rear door ! The Pricing is Quite reasonable, So Far ! I'm just interested in the SmartCap not the full bed replacement . ok gibberish done .

Oh crap, $3800 with windows, and yeah it's quite angled...... :( back to alu*cab.

20191108_151414.webp
i wasn't thinking straight when i was talking about the price. The commercial one, is more like an alu-cab, and at $1600 starting that's not a bad price. I still don't like how its angled in so much, looks like its wasting space and won't look as good as the alu, but for $1700 less.....man I dunno.

after more views it looks like the modular-ness of the smartcap makes the side doors narrower. The alu-cab because its one piece can probably have the side door go farther into the corner......

decisions......

‘that’s an interesting concept. Looks pretty well built and it has a starting price of about $2460. Don’t know about shipping or if they will be developing one for the Glad. The kitchen, like most of these manufacturers is ridiculously expensive...

For ALL the skeptics on the RSI SmartCap's . . . Rather than repeat my Gibberish here too, just click on MY icon and see ALL my Posts . . . the ones related to the SmartCap on other threads . In short, I've been in email Comms with the VP of RSI (Dan B.) for a few weeks and I've been Very Happy with his responses to my (nit-picky) questions / suggestions on the Gladiator Design (oh and RAM DT 1500 as well) . These NEW, for Gladiator (& RAM) will be SPECIFIC to these Trucks Body Lines ! In other words the current photos are NOT Gladiator ! According to VP Dan, the Gladiator Canopy will be Very Close to same height as the Hard top & the 2 sides will ALSO be "IN-LINE" with that of the Hardtops / i.e.; a slight tilt in .
The Front window/body lines of the Canopy will also be "form fitting" to the Gladiator . . . MY words not Dan's, but that is the Jist of the Conversations we've had ! I'm Very Optimistic . OOOPs, seems I couldn't help myself . . . I did do some gibberishing, sorry Steffen . :) ;) .

Well it looks like where ever gave us the $1600 starting number on the commercial was wrong. Just got this from the vp of rsi north America.

"
The SmartCap EVO (leisure) and EVOc (commercial) should both be “available” around February/March, but initial stocking inventory isn’t planned to ship from the factory in South Africa until April, making it available here in May. However it would potentially be possible to special order one and get it shipped ahead of the planned stocking inventory. The SmartCap EVO (leisure) will retail for $3,695 and the SmartCap EVOc (commercial) will retail for $3,195. Either unit will have a net weight of approximately 175lbs., a static load capacity of 770 lbs. and a dynamic load capacity of 330 lbs."

For $3200 and not until April, I'm going alu cab.

Well that sucks. You would think that with the drastically reduced shipping costs it should be cheaper than the Alu-Cab or RLD.

yeah I thought the $1600 was possible because of the reduced shipping but....nope. Oh well, I'm assuming alu-cab has been around more, looks more like what i want, doors bigger and is lighter.

This is a bummer. The intro price was a biiiig reason I was watching this so closely. At that price I have to agree.

You guys are Dreamers . . . NO way ANY Respectable Company could produce such a good product from so far away & get it HERE for that . . . put on your thinking caps before opening your mouths . . . geez ! Try getting LEER or A.R.E. or SnugTop or who ever in USA to manufacture their Fiberglass CAPS for that . . . when they do finally arrive . . . in about the same timeframe as RSI . . . they MAY be a bit less expensive, but NOT at that $1600 price point !? Speculate all you want, I'll be waiting patiently on the sidelines . . . as I've said many times . . . Things change and I'll change with the changes !
I don't think your gonna get a Gladiator-Specific Designed Alu-Cab product for $1600 either . . . if you can, then I'll just caution . . . you get what you pay for !? I like the Alu-Cab's Canopy Camper - but have just recently taken it off my list; not for pricing reasons . . . but for practical for me reasons . The Cap they make (not Gladiator specific yet) I do NOT like . But that is a mute point . . . we ALL have our "tastes" !
ps; . . . "Dreamers" was not a personal attach on anyone . . . a Generally Speaking tone was used here, but of course you couldn't "hear" my inflection . . . I don't "hate" anyone, well maybe one guy . . . but I won't go their . . . :swear:  ;)

Lou you’re being a little too critical my friend. Take a deep breath. We are all entitled to our opinions and you need to respect that.
Hell you don’t even have a Gladiator yet!

No dreaming here, just following the information of a base model costing $1600 up until the new information supplied last night. It seemed cheaper than I'd expect, but with its collapsed shipping size, I'd say it wouldn't cost very much at all to ship these in quantity on a boat and the price didn't seem outlandishly low.

But as I said, the price was the big reason I was watching it with very little personal knowledge of its quality. If the price has doubled, then I'm on to the next. No harm. Heck I won't be buying anything for a bit as it is. We're getting ready to close on a house. Wife would kill me!
