I can see what they are mechanically trying to accomplish. I have an old cutting board that is pretty thick and since HDPP has zero give, it might also work. I'm a "hold my beer" kind of Oklahoma engineer, so I will try numerous solutions before settling. I had a trifecta of demands that needed to be met by this cap and one is creating a dust-free seal. That'll be the KPI for my tests. We'll figure this out together.
I am very interested in dust free as well. I was going to see how well the positive pressure vent works before attempting any major seal work around the tailgate area. Jeep has a LOT of gaps around the tailgate.
I sure hope the RSI representative that has been so active on this forum hasn't fallen sick, but it sure would be nice to get some proper pads sent out to address the seal problem. Or at least some feedback....

I have pinged them a couple times in this thread with some questions/comments, no response at all. Up until now they have been very responsive, would be nice to get some answers and responses as people start getting these caps.

I have received my 1/2" pads and will be installing them probably this weekend. I am hoping the extra 1/16" won't really be needed in order to get the back tailgate and window to actually be able to open and close without using a lot of force and continuing to tear the seals.

I will be replacing all of the 10mm rubber pads included by RSI with these 1/2" pads and will report back on results once I get it done.

I also had some questions regarding the mounting rails on the top. It sounds like they may not be "industry standard" here in the US, so I am wanting to get some feedback on what size t-nut or other mounting hardware they recommend. I am having some mounting feet made to mount my crossbars onto the rails on top and I would love to know what hardware I will need to mount these feet to the rails on top of the Smartcap.

I think if you check with Frontrunner, they can help you with the sizing of the rails. I know they have hardware specific to RSI in order to mount their racks.

It really is a shame that some distributors are having such issues. Offroad Alliance nailed it for me.

Hang in there everyone. It's well worth the wait!

I got the call!
Andy from Off-road Alliance worked to get my cap shipped to Maine instead of Tennessee since I’ll be up here until January. Should ship out tomorrow from Pennsylvania...this snowstorm better not harsh my good time!

I just hope they get some in stock soon...I refresh my shopping cart 3x per day hoping they come in.

Yeah I'd like to know also!
For sure! Glad you guys like it. I'm super happy with how they turned out.

I did a full write-up and threw it up on a few different threads. It has exactly what I used, and lots of pictures of the process. Feel free to check out my post in the DIY section here -> https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/auxiliary-bed-light-cargo-light-diy.38023/

I also put it up on my build thread. Feel free to check it out if you're bored: https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/ares-build-thread.26187/

Are you referring to the Frontrunner anchors for the RSI tracks? If so, utilize their live chat. They're super helpful. When I ordered, they had them in stock, but they weren't on the site just yet.

EDIT: Part number for the RSI track anchors for Frontrunner racks are in the post below.

I just saw your post. I may be able to help. I don't have the exact width of the hardware that went in, since it's already installed...but if you plan on going Frontrunner, the part number for their RSI-specific track anchors is RRAC921. RSI tracks are definitely more narrow than the standard, as the provided anchors with my Frontrunner rack were, I'd estimate, 1/8" - 1/4" or so too wide. They still don't appear to be up on their website just yet, but if you contact them and reference that part number they should be able to assist. They are sold in sets of 2. The picture below is how the item showed on my invoice. These anchors fit the RSI track perfectly, and I was able to mount my Frontrunner rack without issue. Even if you don't go Frontrunner, these could be a good starting point to mount what you need.

I'm sure RSI themselves will be able to clarify. They were super helpful back when I was pestering them regularly through direct messages. In the meantime, hopefully this helps.

Thanks so much for the info! Currently I have some custom aluminum crossbars that I plan on using and mounting my hardshell rooftop tent to. Previously I had a bed rack that I just bolted the crossbars to - now with the Smartcap I will need feet to install into the rails on top so that I can mount the crossbars to those.

I am currently having the feet made but I will need to know what size/type of hardware to use to mount them into the rails. I'm hoping that RSI will get back to us with some specifics so that I can hopefully find what I need to mount these things.

I am also curious about what size hardware the pre-drilled holes in the ceiling inside are for - that info would be useful as well!

I was wondering the exact thing about the holes in the ceiling. I was planning on making a trip to Lowe's this weekend to find out. I have a ton of spare hardware in the garage that I may mess around with to try and find a match first.

I was thinking about drawing a cargo net across the ceiling and fastening it up. It'd be a convenient place to air out wet gear or to stow dirty laundry on trips, until I come up with a better use for the space.
