Just took our first long trip with the cap on and we are seeing warping at the clamp points. I know some may say that they are overtightened, but i don’t think that’s it. None of these spots were there pre-trip and I drove it around quite a bit before that.

I have never liked the clamps they use! Here is a video on RLD that does show a difference in How they attach to rail system and seems much cleaner an attachment especially considering Dogs getting hurt on the clamps with RSI!

Mine's doing the same thing. I took the clamps and the trail rail off to see if I could find any damage. From what I could tell, the rubber blocks under the smartcap are creating a 2.25 square inch point load on the plastic rail cap, and the rail cap is deflecting. I couldn't find any indication that this deflection is making it to the metal at the top of the bed. All the squish seems to be happening in the rail cap. If you wanted a super secure connection, you could put something between the rail cap and the top of the bed to fill the void. Those rail caps are only $20 a piece so it might be worth fooling with.

My cap is supposed to arrive Monday. I have to make the hour and half drive to town tomorrow. Is there anything I need to pick up from Home Depot that I will need for assembly and install?

I know this stuff. How do you use it on your cap for assembly or install?

You need to add it under the cap near the tailgate to shim it up a bit. If not, the tailgate compresses the gasket. You need 9/16ths worth, so you need to adhere 9 pieces to each other per side. There are a few posts about it in this massive thread. Haha.

I read that RSi recognized the problem and supposedly found a solution in like November or December. Was hoping the newer shipments included the thicker rubber shims. Does anybody know if this is the case? I just ordered my sport edition smartcap yesterday.

Could be, but mine was delivered a few weeks ago without any modified rubber blocks, etc. It was one of the first shipments of EVOa, but it was shipped well after this problem was brought to everyone's attention and RSI responded with a solution. So, I wouldn't count on receiving it with any updated parts, but a quick HD run would get you sorted. Let us know if you receive anything different. Should have rubber blocks that are thicker than the rest (Unsure of the exact thickness of the standard blocks, but revised blocks should be 9/16ths).
