Do you have the all weather floor mats? Are the plugs removed from them if you do have ? My Rubicon sounded weird one day and I found the drain plug in the floor mat has been kicked loose. Worth checking out.
I just have the stock mats that came with it, but I'll check.

Internal combustion?…just kidding

It could just be a combination of everything that’s being amplified due to the Jeep having a removable top and weird acoustics. I don’t know about you, but the JT was my first Jeep and I remember hearing all kinds of weird noises when I first got it. I’m used to them now though and don’t hear anything lol
Probably the best explanation, thanks.

I ran into this problem. Nearly freaked me out. Went wheeling, after a week decided to take it to do a heavy cleaning at the car wash. Removed mats doing so to spray them off. Well one of the drain plugs inadvertently fell out unbeknownst to me. Well I put the mats back in not knowing the passenger side plug was out. Started driving and heard the difference. Amazing how much noise comes from under there.

What tires? What top? Manual or auto? EcoD or gas? I mean, more information is what we need here. You aren't giving very much. Just "I hear something and I want you to throw wild guesses at it!"

Also could really use a sound clip or video. "Rumbling" by its very nature has a different definition based on who you talk to.

More info, like year, engine, trans, any modifications you have made, when it makes the noise, does in change when in 4wd, etc., would help narrow down possible causes. Check to see if your falls under the driveshaft recall range. If it goes away in 4wd, it could be the FAD bushing issue.
It's brand new so I'm sure it is not under any recall. I've never even had it in 4WD. It seems to be sensitive to the roughness of the road. Makes that sound more when the road is rough. I'm thinking that it is just the way the suspension sounds in a Jeep cockpit.

Standard removable hard top, auto tran, gas engine. It's not a real loud sound just a subtle rumbling that increases with the roughness of the road making me think it is just the way the suspension sounds in a Jeep cockpit. Everything is stock and brand new.

I may have the same noise you are experiencing. The best I can tell it is coming from the right rear and the "rumble" seems to be enhanced when I go over a rough patch of road. I have looked everywhere and cannot find the culprit. Everything is tight. At first I thought it was the plastic wheel well liner and it was loose. Nope. I have no more ideas.

Interesting Kevin, mine doesn't seem to come from any general area, just sounds that way as I drive along. If you discover anything, let me know. I'm starting to believe that it is normal.

probably the engine when you're in 7th gear and it's stuck at 2100 rpm's
LOL - hardly. Mine spends a lot of time in 7th and no "rumble". Aside from WIND NOISE, the truck made no "rumble" sound. The A/T tires on it now make some noise but not a rumble.
These should have no "rumble" sound.

Before I changed to A/T tires from the stock overland tires, it was whisper quiet as far as drivetrain and tire sounds. Very quiet. It was only WIND that made it a loud truck. No odd sounds anywhere.

It won't be the front axle disconnect (FAD) as that's a different sound, not a rumble really (and it does go away in 4 wheel drive mode)

Basically I've had my Overland for more than 2 years and 24,000 miles. No rumble, no squeaks, no vibrations, just wind noise and now I hear the tires because I changed tire types. Still not a rumble from the tires.

I've had mine wound up tight and hard in every gear, 95 mph and ever speed below that. I've had the RPM in the 5,000s, I've towed and had it pulling at 4300 rpm on the highway, just the engine singing along nicely, no rumble. These won't rumble at higher RPM, in fact, engines typically rumble at lower RPM under load, not wound up on the highway so not sure where that comes from.

If ya want to hear a rumble - come take a drive in my 73 but bring ear plugs.

+1 on this…check those plugs.

my roaring was so bad, I pulled over to check it.

once plug was back in, sound gone.

Are you driving on Rumble Strips when this happens? JK, my jack was loose when I got mine, it made some strange noises, not rattling, more like a low droning sound at highway speeds.

No just driving along on city streets. It does get more pronounced as the road gets rougher.
