If you are talking about the bottom of the frame rail, this is a very common area for paint to be scratched off as a result of tie-downs for transport. Lots of reports of paint missing in this area. Mine had it, but I slathered on some brush-on oil-based RustOleum when I got it home.
I bought my 2024 in March…..it was built in January.
Looks totally different - only 5,000 miles on it now.

That is annoying. Unfortunately, the paint under these things is crap and they rust rather easy.
People swear by Fluid-Film. I use rust converting primer and rattle can satin black.
Yup, sadly the nature of the beast.

I have been giving my '23 JTM the Fluid Film treatment as I have been installing the lift and shit. Mine has been through 2 mild winters and some trips to Maine and the mountains in Maryland where they love brine and salt.

So here's how mine looks right now. I say hit your shit soon before mother nature says fuck yo shit

Hopefully they eventually realized there was something scuffing the paint from the factory on the frames and made that correction after 4 years. lol. Looks clean.

My plan is to take it in for the first service after the holiday (only has 3600 since July when I bought it), point out the rust, see what the dealer will do, or say, then roll on from there.

Those pics I posted are from the week I bought it and are dated, and I sent them to the sales guy and those texts are dated from when I bought it, so they can’t really dispute when the rust occurred. It was before I bought it.

Beyond that I’ll do what has been recommended here.

I’ve two free dealer services yet to be used so I figure I’ll give them a shot.
I’m going there anyway.

I haven’t asked service yet. That statement I posted was just the sales guy’s comment a week after I bought it and had sent him pics. I didn’t expect him to do anything. And I haven’t been back since I bought it. I told him I’d have service look at it when I came in for service.

I had great service from their Chevy store 15 miles away and now they get a shot a good service.

If they do something, great. If they don’t, I’ll do it myself, but I’m not crawling my old ass under there (again) till they get a shot at it.

I changed the oil and filter on my Harley this afternoon, and now I need a nap. LOL

Yeah man, just get at it and be done.

They sell kits on Amazon or just buy the cans locally......easy peasy piece of mind

How often do you guys repaint your factory skid plates? My garage kept Florida JT has some paint missing under there, guess I should touch up those scrapes.

I would just get a can of self etching primer, scuff up the area with a scotch pad, wipe off with some mineral spirits and then spray some decent flat black enamel on it. If the dealer does it, they will probably just spray some black paint on it.

This thought occurred to me today as well.

So here’s a question. There is some sort of road residue I’d like to flush off the underside of the JT. Even the steel spare tire rim has corrosion on both sides of it. Looks like crap.

Is there anything besides water to wash/flush what appears to be salt/brine residue off before I do some remediation work on the worst parts that I pictured in the OP?
