If you have been driving for thirty years, you are entering the stage of life where your reflexes start to slow down. I opted for every available option on my Overland. The ACC is a great driver aid, and I use it all the time. I always use my mirrors, but the monitors and camera are great aids to avoid mistakes. I'm still a great driver, after 42 years behind the wheel, and I accept every aid possible to keep me that way.
This! ^ I don't care how good a driver I think I am, these features just add a layer of safety that I appreciate. Not to replace situational awareness, but to supplement it.

The ACC indeed makes interstate driving a lot less tiresome, but I use it on arterials around here as well.

I also find that ParkSense is extremely helpful, usually more than once per day. Many times because of so many big SUVs with tinted glass I can see only partially to back out of a parking place. Take it slow, the Jeep beeps when someone is approaching behind.

Thanks for the clarification. None of the gladiators I test drove had the features so I confess to more/less guessing from what I have read here. Good to know the features are easy to control.

The last time I test drove a vehicle with lane assist was a 2017 Subaru Outback and it seemed to have a hard time following the pavement markings. The other safety features don't really seem dependent on highway maintenance so they are probably a lot more reliable.

I have all safety features on my JTR and love them.
But two things bother me about the Forward Collision Warning.
1st it will sometimes press the brake and give a warning sound when there is nothing in front of you. (No car in front)
2nd you have to be careful when driving aggressively, If you try and pass a car close the system will kick in and try to crash you. Lol

You can set FCW to warning only. I have mine on using the medium setting. If you are an aggressive driver, it can set it off more often as it is trying to prevent contact with the object in front of you.

I ordered my JT with the blind Spot Monitoring and Cross Path Detection but not the Forward Collision Warning. The CPD has paid off twice so far and I'm really happy I got both. The FCW just seemed to me to be something I didn't need.

I have all the safety features, and I’ll use this thread to remind myself to review exactly what circumstances the forward collision monitoring is programmed to insert itself into and most likely turn it off for good.

My Audi stood on my brakes in the middle lane of an interstate at about 75mph late at night, in the rain, with barely a soul on the road. If I’d had a tailgater or a tractor trailer behind me I would have been finished.

Different car, different manufacturer even, sure. I’m an attentive driver however and have never put myself in the sort of danger the “safety system” put me in that night.

I didnt want the 2nd safety group, but like the blind spot monitoring.

my reason is i dont think the auto react safety stuff can resolve all situations: ill give a an actual example:
Icy road, wide load on 2 lane highway, slight curve, but wide shoulder. Lane assist tried to “correct” the path keeping in the lane, i wanted to give room and use the wide shoulder, the sudden steering correction was very un-welcome, i turned that off in winter conditions (company car) i avoided an accident, but thats where that safety feature....wasnt.

I also wonder if all the eyes drifting down onto thier phone while driving are doing so because they feel secure with the vegicle having all these safety features....

Just last night, I was on the 6-lane just outside of Memphis, rolling at about 65 pulling a 12’ trailer. I ran up on a little car doin maybe 50, and quickly checked my mirrors, turned on my left signal and started changing lanes faster than I should have. There was a car Right in my blind spot with his headlights Off = I would have put him into the wall or crashed into him, had the blind spot system not warned me. I had been driving almost 7 hrs & was almost finished w/ the trip so shame on me but that time the system worked. If you drive in traffic I would recommend it although it is not cheap.

I'm not a fan of the Adaptive Cruise Control, but I do think that Forward Collision Warning with Full Auto Stop should be a requirement on all new vehicles. I've heard too many stories where it's prevented a rear-end collision.

That being said, I have neither, primarily due to cost, and the wait associated with having to order it. And as for the Blind Spot Monitor, I got a couple of small, stick-on spot mirrors for $5, and they work just fine.

If the safety package had been in a Sport S or an Overland, I’d’ve bought it. But my dealer couldn’t find such a beast in a color I wanted, so I would’ve had to custom order from the plant, which wasn’t an option.
And I’d like to see it as a US DOT requirement on ALL NEW CARS, as it would save money and lives.
My opinion: you don’t have to agree with it.

So, it only saves lives if it's available in color you want? The reason vehicles are so expensive is because of all the requirements someone thought up. We've now got ESS, TMPS, PMS......all because someone thought it should be required. But like most of those ideas, they are always best when someone else is paying for them. You know, for the children.

If you drive around here, you want ACC. In fact I don't even use the other any more, neither does my wife in her GC.
I35/I80 - the truck traffic is crazy and sometimes the drivers are, too. Most are fine, but there's just enough of them playing games out there.......... ACC means in truck traffic when they slow for hills you can keep the cruise on - and when someone suddenly decides to cut across three interstate lanes right in front of you - sure is nice.
I first saw some of these things on a friend's Mercedes and I was impressed. It even told him when he was getting tired - it learned his driving and knew when his steering habits changed even a little.
My father was killed by an idiot who thought he could drive not having slept more than 4 or 5 hours after a long day the day before - had his cheap-ass car had any safety devices, my father would still be alive. And don't even believe for a minute "can't happen to me" - yeah, it can - and it usually happens to those who believe they are so good, so perfect, they don't need that stuff.
That kid was pretty cocky and sure of himself, too.......... until he woke up and got out of his car and looked over to see my father's mangled, crushed body laying behind his truck. Now he's a changed guy for sure. And that scene will haunt him forever, according to his priest.
I had wished the guy would spend some time in prison - but maybe living with that in his head is actually worse.
Collision avoidance, anything, would have prevented that!

I had a 2016 VW Touareg v6D that had all these bells and whistles.
The ACC was the biggest pain in the ass because people here, frankly are rude and don’t know how to drive around other people on the road. I would set it at 120 km/hr and numerous people would pass me. Fair enough, I don’t care what speed you want to drive, I’m on 120.
However, they cannot complete a pass by going 6 car lengths ahead and then move in front of me, no, most of them move back in within a car length. ACC does not like this. The CC is on and off like a hookers panties on payday.
No thank you, pass on this option.

TPMS would’ve saved lives had it been mandatory sooner, and saves lives now.
ESS saves fuel and reduces CO emissions (and yes, I use it.)
PMS?

the gladiator or for the matter the wrangler are not what I would consider super safe vehicles. They are purpose focused with abilities to do other task however not as well as its main focus. If you’re looking for something safe for your kids this probably isn’t the best option. My wife’s Lexus IS kid safety focused and thats what we use for shuttling jr around. Needless to say the gladiator needs every advantage it can get with safety options. They me be expensive but what good is money If your dead.
