If your JT is repaired instead of totaled, then trade it for something else; there could be internal drivetrain damage that does not show up until later.
That would be a tough situation. Wherever one were to attempt a trade-in, the dealer would pull up a CarFax and say, "Whoa, extreme damage! Sorry, we can't give you much of anything for that vehicle".

My son was t-boned in his Mustang. After it was repaired he immediately went and traded it in for a truck. Repair was not on Carfax yet. So, if you plan to do that, you probably should do it as soon as you have it back. Don't give any time for Carfax to get the info in their system.

Any pictures of the Grand Cherokee by chance?
It was a regular Cherokee (those are KL, right?). Here's two pics. His sister has got to be cranky about her new SUV ...
Jeep Gladiator Say goodnight, Gladys KL wot hit me 1
Jeep Gladiator Say goodnight, Gladys KL wot hit me 2

He tried to drive away in it. Only got 500' but that's enough to charge him w/ leaving the scene.

Sorry to read bout your accident. I’m glad you apparently are OK.
Like was said above, medical imparments can manifest itself days and even weeks after an accident. Don’t sign off on any medical statements or recorded phone interviews, period.

Secondly, if you can, take it to the best repair shop in your area. If you don’t know who that is look to where the local Mercedes dealership (or other high end dealership) refers their clients to. Insist that only OEM parts are used. No aftermarket parts.

Thirdly, hopefully you can get a rental while all this plays out.

Best of luck!
I'm stiff and sore but doing okay. A little hypervigilant on the road, understandably.

Good advice, thanks. Looks like it will be a total loss though (thankfully).

I wouldn't be so quick to jump on Gap Insurance. Typically, you need Gap Insurance in the following situations:

1. You paid way too much for the vehicle
2. You put down little or nothing when you bought the vehicle
3. You were upside down on your trade and tacked the difference onto the new loan
4. You bought a GM sedan; especially a Cadillac sedan (those don't hold much value)

If you're not in the above categories, Gap Insurance is likely a waste of money. Gladiators and Wranglers hold their value pretty well, so I wouldn't expect it to be an issue.
Huh. My interpretation was gap insurance would cover me in a situation like this (brand new car) to help me get an equivalent replacement. Guess what I really is those special "new car replacement policies" that Geico doesn't have.

Update: insurance adjuster called and said I should start looking for a replacement vehicle. "It will be a total loss but we need to wait for the financial analysis" to see how much I would get. Hope it's close to what I need to buy a new 2021 JTR.

I was just about to add that they were diverting and time wasting with the repair bs. Focus hard on the end game. Which is you, healthy with full medical clearance, sitting in the same or better version of your original vehicle, for which you paid nothing. Ignore and deflect anything other than optimal outcome. My 2c, worth what you paid!

This is where GAP insurance could help. If the insurance company check for the totalled truck is less than the amount owed to the bank, GAP insurance would pay the difference and close out the loan. Otherwise, the balance remaining would have to be paid by you, or rolled into the loan on the new truck.

I would see if your insurance company offers the guaranteed replacement option for the new truck. That is supposed to give you enough to replace the totalled vehicle with an equivalent truck, regardless of what the financial calculations on value come up with.

My research indicates that GEICO does not. That’s why I’m considering switching insurers after all this is over. I’d be happy to be wrong though.

Financed my truck with Chrysler Capital to get almost 7% below invoice, paid the 4 payment minimum for the deal and refinanced with the credit union that has my bike note. Gap insurance was $395 to add to the loan. Not much but the finance companies are gambling on payout value being above loan value before it’s needed but IF you’re in an accident and loan value exceeds payout of the totaled vehicle, GAP covers the difference to payoff the remainder of the loan. Coworker went through this several months ago. A guy brake checked her on the highway, she swerved, lost control and tore up the front end pretty bad. When she bought the car used, they offered GAP to her and for a few hundred bucks she added it to the loan, 6 months later when she wrecked, the insurance paid her $2100 less than the balance of her loan and GAP covered it.

The way I see it, Jeeps DO hold their value well but for $400, (which how little a month at 3%) I have one less thing to worry about in a case like this.

This appears to be a good article about Gap Insurance:

https://wallethub.com/edu/ci/gap-insurance/9002

There are limits. One of my coworkers bought a late model, used Impala several years ago. Shortly thereafter, it got totaled in a hail storm from Hell. He had Gap Insurance, but since his car was a GM sedan, it had almost no value and he still owed the bank a bunch.

Just to make sure I'm reading this correctly: The OTHER DRIVER'S insurance is replacing your Gladiator with an equivalent one, right? No reason your insurance should be paying for this unless the other driver was uninsured... Which I don't think is likely considering the Jeep they were driving.

This exactly. This is why you want gap insurance. People on here saying don't get it are playing the same odds game that the insurance company is and guess what, people lose on this every day. It's the same exact thing to me as regular insurance. Do I need it on a typical day (other than it's the law)? No. But I have it there JUST IN CASE. The extra fraction of a payment to have peace of mind on the road is way worth it to me, especially on something this expensive. If you walk in and pay for 1/2 the truck immediately, sure, it's not worth it, but if you're more normal like me and don't have equity in a vehicle to plunk down $20k-$30k+, then gap is probably a good bet for yo u.
