My son got rear ended in my two month old JK Rubi years ago. You literally couldn’t see any damage. Apparently it put a slight crease in the rear crossmember. Rather than having a frame shop fix the issue they decided to do a complete frame swap. I never trusted that Jeep again. I ended up trading it with diminished value on a Power Wagon.

If they do a full frame replacement and bed replacement, wonder how that impacts warrenty because now it isn't factory built. Something goes wrong with the wiring they could blame it on the repair work and null-and-void the warrenty.

Geico is now telling me it will only cost $38500 parts and labor to fix this. I’m heartbroken.
Is this where you hit them with the diminished value claim too, and show that it puts you over their threshold? Like if it's 38.5k to fix and you can show it's now worth 15k less to the market, shouldn't Geico be making a decision based on having to pay the shop + you 53.5k total?

I have no idea by the way.

That's what geico is saying or is that what the shop is saying? Because when they actually start taking it apart, they're probably going to find more wrong with it and that cost is gonna creep up.
Never took it to a shop. In my mind it was totaled so I payed to have it towed to my driveway so I could remove the winch, etc. Adjuster came to me.

Seems I reacted to their repair estimate w/ no context, it’s a number on the GEICO website. Basically they justified a total loss, and now are crunching numbers to have a first offer for a settlement.

Oh, and it seems my Metalcloak lift may not be covered because I didn’t call them after it was installed to get a rider? This is a great learning experience.

Mostly a good outcome, glad to hear. You were safe and no one was hurt, so that's the good outcome I guess. This is just icing on the cake. Sucks you're probably out the lift but now you're $60k better than you thought just a day ago.

Good luck!

PS you typically can only pursue a diminished value claim with the 3rd party’s auto liability carrier.
Your own insurance, first party, is not subject to a DV claim.

Why isn't my insurance subject to my loss related to diminished value?

If you can not seem to get a replacement vehicle and you are "stuck" with this after repairs, file a diminished value claim. The value of that vehicle just dropped like a sack of potatoes. Go to two or three shops and have them value it after repairs. Take the median value how how much it dropped, add on what cost you incurred going to said shops, and demand that in the claim.

I have done this twice. Insurance companies will lowball the hell out of you on these. But they will give in eventually. I had to hold my ground for 4 months following my DVC on someone who fell asleep at the wheel and hit me while I was at a dead stop at 50 MPH on the Schuylkill two years ago.
We are pursuing a DVC on my daughter's like new (less than a year old) Renegade. What kind of shop are you talking about to get a value after repairs - dealers?

Dealers or officially sanctioned repair shops by your insurance company. Either one works. The two times I have done this, I went to my normal dealership, a separate one, and two other body shops my insurance company sanctioned as acceptable shops. That way I got a feel of who was higher, and what the cost would roughly be dealership vs normal body shop.

Because your contract with your insurance company won’t say that’s covered. It will say something along the lines of “pay the lesser of repair or replace with like kind and quality.” Your insurance will pay for a fender if one is damaged. They won’t pay for an “intangible”

The liability side of an auto policy won’t have that same type of language.

I have GEICO as well. I called them and added a $3k "customization" rider when I did my Mopar lift and tires. Changed my premium by maybe $5-7/mo

Is there ever any concern that they can blame damage on the suspension alteration? As in - if you didn't have the lift, the accident would not have totaled the vehicle?

Well in my particular case, my argument would be that it's a lift made by Jeep. They didn't seem to care at all what the mods were, just the value.
