Hi all. I have a Gomammut canopy camper on my Gladiator. I'm looking to do some late fall/winter camping and planning on using a BougeRV diesel heater. The heater has an automotive "leak-proof" cap so I'm not too concerned about leaking fuel in the camper during transport, but a rotopax or fuel can sloshing around in the back sounds like it could get messy at some point. I started looking at ways to carry the fuel outside the truck. I could probably add a fuel mount to the aluminum gullwing side doors on the camper but I see 2 issues: One, will the weight put too much stress on the thin aluminum door, and two, I don't want to make the truck any wider than it is, as the trails I run are seriously tight. I saw the rotopax mount by seasucker and thought that it might be perfect to mount on the tailgate. It keeps the fuel out back, out of harms way, and keeps the weight a little lower. My concern is whether or not I'll damage the tailgate panel when 20 pounds of fuel are bouncing around on 2 suction cups. Has anyone tried this and/or what do we think of the idea?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! - Mike

Your best bet.Check
Out the MoonLight version based on the pictures of your setup. I personally don’t want anything but a Trasheroo type thing hanging off my tailgate for trail use.

Thanks for the link. Big bucks to carry some diesel but they do look really nice. Any idea if they whistle? My rig as really quiet for what it is and I'd hate to change that. -M

Don’t know what you have at your bed front but I did a JCR Molle panel and attached 2-3 galllon Rotopax cans to it. I also carry diesel. If you seal the cans correctly they don’t leak.

How about a cargo carrier basket for the receiver hitch (assuming you have a 2” receiver)? I fabricated a holder for a 5-gallon water jug to use with any vehicle that has a receiver hitch. There is no danger of a little weight when supported from the receiver.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a molle panel in the same place. Just hoping to keep diesel out of there as much as possible.

If you get a chance post a pic. Thanks.

And how many times did the suction cup holding your phone/GPS come loose and fall off the windshield?
And you want to suction cup fuel to the outside of the truck? Some kinda rack in the trailer hitch sounds a lot better.

My SeaSucker Starlink Mini mount wouldn't stay stuck to the inside of my JL's rear window for 24 hours straight. Worried fuel cans in the bed would be messy? Imagine how fun it would be to have a tank of diesel flying off into traffic behind you.

I would rather install several threaded inserts on topper wing panel and mount the fuel container on that. Over using suction cup mounts. A small hitch rack of sorts is probably better option. I use one to pickup diesel fuel for my diesel heaters multiple 5 gal fuel cans at a time.
