We have taken it to the dealer 5 times and complained that at slow speeds shifting from 2nd to 3rd has become a nightmare. Shifting hard and sometimes feeling like it won't shift at all. Then to top it off, when going from park to reverse, it nearly knocked me out of the seat with such a hard shift. Anyone else having these issues?

I occasionally have the hard shift when going into reverse or drive from park. I do notice that when I get in the truck and start it the RPMs are always around 1500. If you let it sit and warm up for 30 seconds or a minute you’ll notice the RPMs drop below 1000. If I wait until then to shift, I don’t get the hard clunk anymore.

As far as you going from 2nd to 3rd, I think it depends a bit on how you’re accelerating. I’m pretty light on my throttle so I’m usually in seventh / eighth by the time I hit 45 or 50mph.

if I’m getting on the accelerator, it definitely holds in the lower gears longer since that’s where the torque is for acceleration.

That is what the dealership said (let warm up). I have tried that multiple times with no change. And the hard shifting from 2nd to 3rd only happens when we are accelerating slowly. Thank you for your comments Gren71

Dang :-/ hopefully someone else has some more pertinent info for ya. We all know that feeling when something we love doesn’t work the way we want it to.

it was that bad and it took them no time to finally realise the problem
I was expecting a parts constraint to hold it up.

Did they put in a new build or reman unit in? They are allowed to do either but was just wondering.

Problem solved.....they had to replace the transmission.
I'm having this issue with the shift between 3rd and 4th. Was told the trans fluid had to warm up. How did you get them to replace the transmission

33k. Chrysler first said to replace the valve body, that made it worse and then finally they gave in and replaced with a new transmission.

I'm going through the same thing. Sometimes it wouldn't even engage to reverse. When it did, it was delayed and rough. No codes or lights. I took to the dealer 3 weeks ago; they wanted to do the valve body replacement. Luckily another Gladiator was in with the same symptoms and the valve body replacement did nothing. Now they're going to replace my transmission. I hope I won't be waiting too much longer.

Well I found this post because I was having the same slow speed shifting issues and in reverse as well. Then I had an Ignition system failure light come off and on a few times. Took it in and they "found metal contaminates in the transmission fluid". So, it looks like I am getting a transmission replaced as well. just over 36k miles.
