I mean if we want to compare the car sales game to home remodeling it would be like two contractors trying to both sell the same shower they purchased from lowes but one claimed their cost for the same shower was 10k more. Im not talking about labor or any of that im just saying identical material cost and who is the crook. Sure you could justify it by saying the person agreed to get ripped off but that still is a comical argument and makes you look bad.

Definitely crazy times were living in and I've never seen anything like this!

My buddy just bought a used 2020 JT that was already nicely built with rack, tent, bumper, winch, etc.... Dealer had it priced at $67k? Didn't sell in 2 months so he went in with a much lower reasonable offer and got it.

This weekend we met the previous owner and he told us what they gave him in trade for it.......They were trying to gross $30k on it!

Agreed!

This is why I try to sell my product at the MAP price and take care of the rest of what I need in labor. Nobody wants to feel like they got screwed on a purchase, but I do understand there are costs thst have to get covered somehow.

Most of the contractors I know in our area just pay the sales tax on the materials at the time of purchase and gives it away at cost, then prices the labor to cover the rest of the job to make less paperwork.

A local dealer was advertising Hemi JLs for over $100k....Is that unethical?

Maybe not the base price was like 72k? i figure by time you load that thing up it could be hovering around 100k. I never meant to compare craftsmen and contractors to car lots. In my eyes, they are worlds apart. (edit) some contractors are just middle men who sub everything out and try and squeeze all the profit out while offering little. I would argue this is whats wrong. And why people would want to do the custom car order below invoice vs. buy off the lot.

I priced out a nice Hemi for the wife and came out at $78k. They come pretty loaded as a base order and the options list is short. The dealer was just adding $20k+, but I think they were only getting 2 for the year?

Yes, a craftsman's worth is variable based on quality. Usually a manufactured product is the same if qc is doing their job.

Did you pull the trigger on the 392?

Ide like to add. There Is a certain nostalgia to buying something face to face. I miss walking to the local comic book store as a kid to buy something or to my local card shop. Those days seem to be going away. Buying online or from the big box store might be cheaper but it seems to lack that certain appeal. But I digress lol.

Not for 100k! Even if a guy could get one for less than invoice right now, hard for me to justify. Might wait till the next platform upgrade so we have a " new" vehicle to test parts on.

My experience with Gupton was close as stated above, but via email. I realize the difference but bear with me. I reached out, via email, he had me build on the configurator and email him the build. Within 24 hrs he emailed me back with condition based 6, 7 & 8% below invoice pricing. With that in hand, I went to local dealers. They wouldn’t come off msrp, here in the North East no one wants to deal because they know another customer will come through the door and they’ll get what they want.
With Dan being so honest and upfront I placed my order. Couldn’t be happier. He gave me what I asked in trade for my 12’ JK COD and was a pleasure to deal with. My build sheet said $63+K I paid $53k, totally worth it, was the best dealer experience I’ve every had.
FYI Gupton is 45 min north of Nashville, I made a long weekend out of it and tore it up. Well worth the 1000 mi trip, so much so, I’ll likely do it again in a few years.
