See the picture. Heard a very loud hit on the freeway but didn’t see a chip or star and thought I dodged a literal bullet.

Got home to find this. Looks like the rock hit the windshield surround most directly and only partly hit the glass. I’ve looked CLOSE and there may be radiating cracks just beginning. Opinion?

What’s the deal with Gorilla Glass? Is it truly more break resistant? What is the cost compare to a stock replacement?

Yikes, right on the edge - where they are more prone to cracking than any other place. I have my doubts they could repair this, but.......... I don't do the repairs.

Frankly, from what I've seen, and ready about Gorilla Glass, and what others have experienced in the forum, I'm not sure about GG. If I go that route it will be for weight savings. It will still chip and crack and get sand blasted just like any other windshield because the Gorilla Glass later is the one closest to your face when you are driving. I can't figure out why they don't make it the outside layer.

Depends on the $ deduction level you have Comprehensive Insurance.. When/If state inspections are due.. Definitely would address the paint chip which would also be under Comprehensive . Have no experience with Gorilla G.

I’ve heard that with gg that it helps against some of the hits and cracks but definitely more expensive… I’m on my 2nd windshield ? ugh … but I’ve been just getting regular replacements due to my insurance.

Thanks guys. California has no “State inspection” other than the smog check every other year.

I wonder if those windshield repair people or kits would help by injecting whatever they inject before it cracks further? Plus even if I do that it still looks bad. Bus me to have to touch up the paint too.

More opinions?

I had a similar hit & a week later needed replacement. looked into GG but decided against it based on cost/mixed reviews. added glass coverage to policy for $50ish annual & $100 deductible. can bust a lot of glass & still come out ahead of what GG was going to cost here in the Bay.

I wouldn’t bother with it unless it got worse
Oh, it’ll get worse. That’s probably the worst spot to take a hit.

I replaced my first windshield for around $450. My second replacement I went with Gorilla Glass from HGP. The windshield was $600, and ~$200 installation.
It’s taken hits, but only one small chip, and no cracks. With a regular windshield, that small chip would’ve resulted in another replacement.

Sure is. I've seen guys try to remove a windshield and just nick the edge and watched it crack clear down. It's the worst spot and every one I've seen damaged in the edge did crack a lot farther and not far down the road.

Full glass coverage- unlimited chips repaired for free and new windshield if the crack is longer than a dollar bill.

Checking in to read additional comments.

I almost expected see the windshield cracked this morning but no. Had to go to the dealership for touch up paint. Damn, $20 for a little tube but I bought it.

Changed the oil this morning. The last guy (moron) had King Kong tighten the drain plug. I started to round off the plug until I got out a 6 point socket and then still had to strain like hell. Pissed me off.

It SHOULD be an extremely easy job. I can slide right under the Gladiator easily. The filter - as you guys know - is right on top and easy peasy to R&R. I’m very impressed Jeep designed it this user friendly. I thought about spreading the Super Glue over the chipped edge of glass but decided that would’t last long if it even worked at all. Waiting to see what happens. I need to call my insurance to see what they say.

I have 4 cracks and 3 chips. Won’t replace until it gets in my field of vision. Used many windshield repair kits along the way.

I think that might start leaking as well if left, that impact is right on the adhesive seal.

I used a repair kit on my 2014 GMC 2500 - the truck before the Gladiator. It kinda sorta worked. You could still see a half circle - which I assume means the glue didn’t get completely into the crack.

I assume one wouldn't work on this because it’s on the edge and you can’t pull a vacuum. Why spend $16.99? Do you guys agree?

I planned on washing it today but didn’t get around to it. I’ll do it tomorrow and report back.
