Signs the JT Market is Softening?

I've just about decided not to get one, for now. Love the idea of top and doors off, with towing capacity. Don't really want or need a pick up, though. I've come to the personal conclusion that it's too pricey for what it is (for me). The JL doesn't tow enough for my needs. Interesting how in other makes, the SUVs cost more than the pick up equivalent.

Anyway, I'm gonna stick around on the forum to stay current, because I still would like to own one in a couple of years.

The plan for now is to get a Durango SRT; get a big block V8 while I still can! I LOVE my 496 in my Suburban. Plenty of time for the JT in the future; the Durango is about to go body on frame and get bigger. We love our '15 V6 Durango; it's been a very pleasant surprise in handling and comfort. The Mercedes origins of it make it a great driver's vehicle; add a 6.4? Yes, please!

In a couple of years you'll be able to buy a certified pre-owned Gladiator with reasonable mileage, which has had enough warranty service to get all the bugs and glitches worked out.

Actually you know one of the dealers here in Houston told me something very similar to that. He said when all the leased vehicles come around and hit the market as used vehicles there will be a number of used JT with limited mileage on them up for sale. Now whether the dealerships try to gouge folks on the used JT remains to be seen.

They'll hold their value as good or better than the Tacoma so don't expect some huge savings.

Yeah, but a lot those pre-owned Glads will see use as trade-ins on new 2022-2023 Taco TRD 4x4 ORs that will have the Tundra axles, drivetrain, and suspension system. Basically a 'mid-size Tundra' with Toyota reliability.

Not to be argumentative but what does that matter...what Toyota does with the Taco in this discussion on used Gladiator values?

Also, stronger axles or not...won't help their IFS and clearance issues.

The context was trading up for reliability with a trade-in vehicle (a low mileage Glad) that still retains some significant value.

They need to flood the market to build whatever market share they are aiming at. Deals to be had. Segmented market imo. Lifetime owners, high rates of change people flipping, rental market, fleets. The big share on the secondary market will be folks who want em cheap. I'm betting on a dip in resale value for these odd ball builds before a rebound to JL type resale value. The only way to build the market is to get every variety out there, which fits this bizzarro product line we are seeing, and then dump, which means some will be had cheaporama.
