Small Slits in Bed?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've never owned a truck or a Jeep before, so here I am...

Does anyone know what these small slits in the bed are? I noticed them yesterday when I was gassing up. There's one on either side, near the front of the bed, just over the side wall. They're about an inch long, and barely wide enough for a fingernail.

I don't see them on mine. I did have a bullet spray in liner done though so maybe that covered them up? There's drain cut out's in the bed by the cab wall, perhaps these are more of the same?

Yea, my first thought was that they were some kind of drainage system, but they look so pitifully small that I can't imagine they'd drain much of anything. I'll check around the bed and see if there are any others though!

if I am not mistaken, truck beds are made by forming/shaping a giant flat piece of metal, bending it all into place, and welding it together. Those are probably areas where some type of mounting plate or hook was attached for the forming process. Nothing to worry about.

I believe you are referring to the pinch welds. That’s how they assemble sheet metal

They’re water drains
Drop your hose in the truck bed. It drains right out. But yeah clog easy cause they are slim.

If I understand correctly, they're on the vertical part of the bed, not the floor. So not drains, unless it's supposed to keep you from overfilling the tub...

They do look intentionally pressed... My money is on manufacturing relic.

Sorry, no they are on the floor of the bed itself, not the side walls. I tend to agree with you though - they look weird, but not unintentional.

I don't have plastic caps on my drain holes, but maybe because I have the factory spray in liner. I didn't realize that was a thing on these.

I can grab a pic tomorrow. It's possible I'm confusing them with something else, but there are several circular plastic plugs in the bed of my Gladiator right now. I haven't bothered to yank them out yet (dealer is going to put a bedliner in anyway).

Correct… a big mechanized arm grabs the sheet off the rack/pile, swings it around, and then two welder tack it down.
Id smile knowing they were there. ??

Ok, this should be a better angle. I assumed that the plastic plug was the drain hole, but I see them at the front of the bed now. The mystery slit is in the bottom left, for reference.

Ohhh. I see now. New angle helps a lot.

No idea what that plastic cap is, mine are covered with spray liner.

Your front drains are also like twice the size of mine, which is interesting. *
I do not have those side slits that I can see. *

*both of these could be because of a spray liner
