I’m sure it’s been talked about. Here’s my stupid two questions.

1. how long should I defrost before driving on the snow?

2.When driving on the highway, when would it be best to shift to 4h?

Hello, I hope you are doing okay down there...

Defrost long enough to clear the windshield. However, you should take a brush or broom and clear your lights and hood and roof. You don’t want the warm roof to allow a pile of snow to slide down and blind you... or snow blowing up off the hood... or snow obscuring your lights.

4high is for slippery roads, (see manual). It will bind on dry roads. I use my 4h in slush or slight snow cover, but not if the road is dry. Remember, stopping is the BIGGEST concern. Leave extra room, then leave some more. Consider using the berm if you can’t stop... but you’ll have to weigh those options.

1. Till the ice melts!
2. You may get different answers and some debate here, but if there's snow and ice on the road I put mine in 4H as soon as I pull out of the driveway. I'll even go to 4H if I think there's a chance there could be icy spots in places, as long as I don't have to negotiate any tight turns and the road is at least wet. Then I'll keep the speed at 55 or lower.

More tips... even salted roads refreeze if it gets cold enough. “Wet” looking roads below freezing might be ice. Nobody can stop on ice. Leave a lot of extra room between you and the car in front. Slow down, not stupid slow, but reasonable. Changes in speed and direction should be done slowly, don’t change lanes on elevated roads/bridges, Ice may be present. Tunnels too... even shaded roads.

If it’s windy, slow and fight the urge to over correct (see above, changes in direction)
