A Sport/Sport S will take you to about 90% of the places ... your build from there will dictate the next 10%

Is that stock other than wheels and tires?

I think the Gladiator looks right with a little lift and maybe bigger tires, given its length. Mine looks a little squat, but I'm not changing it. I'm so happy to have the old-timey ergonomics with a pickup truck. My Ranger was too high. My brother has an F-150 with this goofy little ladder thing in the back that pulls out. I told him that silly ---damned thing was going to kill him. He's like, "OK, grandpa". He's my older brother lol.

Maybe the point is, equip for the mission -- or for looks, whatever. It's your truck. As for lockers, posi whatever -- I wouldn't kick it out of bed! Not sure I'd spend thousands modding it but it is a desirable feature.

100% agree on a bit bigger tire... the stock Sport looks a bit off in my opinion, but that's just my personal preference. I own multiple Jeeps and I have for a long time... I think my addiction to mods is out of control at this point lol.

I think one of the biggest benefits of lockers in my opinion is from a trail preservation perspective. Everyone should be practicing leaving no trace when offroading, and if a hill looks easy but could see some slippage, I'll pop them on just in case. I'd rather turn on my lockers than shred up a trail.

I've been really surprised at how capable my Sport S is. The crawl mode is amazing. 29* dirt incline. Other rigs were having to go full send to get up it. I put my lowly Sport S into 4 low, clicked the button the dash and crept up the hill never spinning a tire. After that I stopped regretting not buying a Rubicon.

I have a 22' Sport S and I love it, everything it stock but I plan to get some larger tires, 35" and new shocks but no lift.

My question though is how capable is the Sport/Sport S as an off-roader?
I know it is not as capable as Rubicon or Mojave, or even a JL b/c of the shorter wheelbase, but can a Sport/Sport S do 90%+ of what others can do off-road-wise?

I once got a 4 wheel drive tractor with 6' tires stuck in the mud.

I would definitely invest in some transmission/oil pan and or any skid plates you can find for the underneath, seeing as it's completely bare under there. Especially if your plan isn't to lift , if you don't have some already ?. Best investment in my life!!! since I also have not lifted yet .

Transmission already has protection and the oil pan is tucked up underneath. If you are a wise driver, then you should be avoiding those areas.
