Has anyone heard this before? Regular sound from front of engine, I think its something on the serpentine belt system. The sound occurs reguarly at idle, about every 5 seconds, and lasts for 3 seconds.

Spraying water on the belt has no effect. reving the engine just makes the sound happen for a shorter duration, but still about every 5 seconds. when the engine is hot, it squeaks almost constantly...

21 Gladiator Sport diesel, 43k miles. fuel pump recall performed a long time ago.

I have upload it to YouTube above, thanks for letting me know it was not working.
Honestly I think the pros here will say that sound is normal, but lets see when they chime in because I know they will.

The squeal occurs 3 times in that video and seems to be evenly spaced. Here is another video where it occurs twice. It definitely is not normal a normal sound to me.

I hear you, for me I would say not normal at all, but some of the pros here have proved me wrong.

I’m not familiar…. Is there one serp belt and how many pulleys?

I’d recommend you take the serp belt off and check all the pullys. Grab each pulley and rotate manually. Does it turn too easily (no resistance)? Does it have rough spots? Is it loose Or wobble/wiggle?

If your pulleys are exposed to a lot of mud/water ….. the bearings go south in a hurry.

You might need new bearingS.

One belt, 6 pullys I believe.

I'll see if I can get the belt off in the morning and do a check. The whole front end of the jeep did get a deep dive in some muddy water recently.

That same squeal started on my JTRD the day after the fuel pump recall was completed 21 months & 18,000 miles ago and the squeal is still present. The dealership doesn't know what it is, sounds like a pully going bad. Other members posted the same squeal "Mystery squeal on JTRD" by @RubiNewbCB and "New noise anyone else have this" by @KEG2021. Good Luck!

You're going to need to pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from. Since it appears the noise can be easily replicated, this shouldn't be too difficult to do by just moving around the front of the vehicle with the hood up and listening. You can also use a short section of heater or garden hose to help locate the source -- hold one end up the hose to your ear and point the other end toward suspected areas that the noise may be coming from, keep going until you find where the noise is the loudest.

With the evenly spaced intervals that the noise is present and absent, I feel the cause is likely something that is cycling on and off. Think solenoid or pulley clutch actuating versus a constantly spinning/moving item. Keep in mind high pitch squeals can also be caused by vacuum leaks, and not just rubbing/slipping items.

All,

The sound went away after I deep cleaned the engine bay. I washed all around the serpentine belt system. I believe there must have been some crud behind a pulley or something.

Definitely has to be related to a mud puddle i lovingly refer to as "the incident"

Almost everytime I took the Power Wagon swimming. I had to replace the idler pulley. Wonder if the JT is the same way.
