Squeaking rear brakes at slow speed - SLOVED

For a while, my rear brakes have squeaked at low speeds for the first few minutes after setting for a while. Found the problem. The pad clip springs had broken. Today, I removed the pads (looked almost new, I’ve had the Jeep since new 2022) and replaced with new Mopar clips. Also added a little brake lube on the pad ears after cleaning. Seems to completely solved the issue. By the looks of the Mopar part number the part has been updated/revised serval times. Cheers.

Wow…wonder why they broke? ..other than being ‘inferior’ to the application.

We often use Anti-squeel or Disk Brake Quiet compounds on the back of the pads.

But then again…most cars I’ve worked on never had clips like that.

Looks like you have a 2022…. Are you still on the OEM pads? Or have you replaced the pads previously?

I’m on original pads. 2022 Sport S on 265/70R17. Only towed the occasional UHaul trailer. 50k miles. I think it was just weak material in the clips. AI said that part revisions were made to a different grade of metal. Hope these last, but a fairly easy job.

Just did a brake service on my 2023 with 60k km. Small piece of metal on clip broken same as in picture.
It is so thin probably just corodes.
Pads were really good around 70% left.

Thanks for the update! I need to stop procrastinating and do mine. I looked under there but couldn’t figure out what broke. Thanks for the broken pics. I guess the broken pieces were stuck in there and dragging?

That's one possibility. Another may be that it prevents the pad from being pulled away from the rotor when letting go of the brakes.

I’m almost sure that the pads were not being fully pulled away from rotor. That’s why it squeaked only when driving the first few minutes.

The pads never ... 'fully pull away' .... from the rotors. They stay up against them just enough without any pressure. If they aren't against them.... that's where you get the squeaks because the pads vibrate against the rotor as the rotor spins.

When you step on the brakes, the system adjusts the pad position as the pads wear to keep them against the rotor.

Ive been too lazy or busy to find the time to check my squeek at firdt take off of the day out the driveway moving super slow. I assume ots the brakes likely a similar issue. If your replacing those or doijg any brake wprk at all, I'd suggest removng, cleaning up and greasing the slide pins along with where the pads sot in these clips. In the rust belt probly an annual maintenance rsther than a suggestion. I used to do this on my Duramax once a year but guess I've neglected the Jeep since I got one in this area. One day Ill get to it I suppose.

Mopar part 68376750AC. I think it is rear brake specific. I ordered two and did both rear brakes.
