I did something different on my JK to hide the pinch seam when I put on my replacement rock rails. 3/4 x 3/4 square tube, painted Black. Held them up and marked several holes, drilled and tapped the tube and put in square plugs.

Basic Westin HDX rails/side steps does a great job hiding the pinch seam - even by the area of the "step".

Covering the pinch welds and the rocker was all I was after . The wife wanted a step so as much as I hate Rough Country these contour steps did what I wanted

Seems like all of the side steps I find are straight, don't come up high enough to cover the pinch weld, and leave a lot of room at the back.
I have n-fab predator pro steps and I like how light they are, but I can't deal with poorly they cover the pinch seam and don't conform to the truck.

Anyone have something they really like, that conforms to the body?

I simply took a piece of 1 1/2 inch aluminum strip and cut to length, painted it flat black to cover pinch weld and gap. I bolted it in place with existing body bolts.
it filled the gap and covered pinch welds nicely between my steps and body.

I reread the OP...I feel like some clarity would help. Are you looking to not see the pinch weld...or better protect it?

Just installed these and I like them a lot. Rough Country Contoured Drop Steps. Follows the contour of the Jeep and it hides the pinch seam. Had my son install them due to a surgery I had and did not pull them closer to the body, which they will. Cost $395.

I have these too and love them. They pretty much cover the pinch weld.

I just installed Barricade HD Rocker Steps on mine. While they don't completely cover the pinch weld, they do fit up high enough to disguise it. My wife needed a step, and they definitely make it easier to get in and out. I was looking for steps, but not the drop down type. Price was nice, too.

Are they sturdy enough to hold up as a slider?

They are not designed as sliders, and I wouldn't use them as such. They are plenty strong for side impact protection, though.

Can’t believe no one has mentioned RSE yet. Best slider/steps that also fully hide the pinch weld and are contoured to the body. Expensive AF but worth every penny.

Yeah my first thought as well but OP said the Rockhards are out of his comfort range. RSE at almost double that probably not going to work in this situation.
