Thanks for resurrecting this thread. I was just thinking about doing something like this.
@Phinneywood I hope you are still around because this is brilliant and I just want to say thank you.
Likewise, thanks

I went to order this a while ago and it never happened. Jeff Bezos is bringing all the parts to me

credit that does look nice and clean, but I agree with others about load rating. With the rail, you're distributing that load across all the bolts instead of just one. And I love the cleats, so easy to secure to.

I have a background in commercial freight vehicle design and fleet management and with that significant experience in cargo securing. I’ve also spent a lot of time investigating cargo loss claims caused by poor securement, So here is my take on this mod.

If your intent is to hold a cover over yard trimmings, or hang nets for holding groceries, have a ball. If you want to tie down more than 1- 2x4, or a residential refrigerator, or a dining room table, don’t do it because it’s an accident waiting to happen. If you want a high securing point on your Glad to secure heavy stuff, buy the Trail Rail kit. There is a reason Mopar sells them and not wire loops attached with M6 bolts for hold downs.

Personally and professionally I don’t like this at all because it is too easy and convenient to inadvertently misuse, and because of its convenience, more likely to be misused.
