Hey World,
2023 Willys Sport here and have been looking at steering boost kits. However, I wanted to ask about the need to beef up the steering box. Has anyone had experiences with a failed Steering Box (Any type of failure) after doing a boost kit without any other upgrades? I was looking into MC Sector Shaft Brace or Synergy Sector Shaft Brace. I dont have PSC money or funds to replace steering box with a heavy duty one so I wanted to query the masses.

Would those Sector Shaft braces do any good or are they needed at all?

The JT is moderately built on 37's and do moderate wheeling.

Look at my signature for my mods. The Synergy TB and Sector shaft did make a difference in the steering. My 37s with nothing but factory steering box are just fine.

Recently, I watched a video of a JT that snapped the pitman arm. Something else to think about too. Many Jeeps could use a sector shaft / steering gearbox brace. XJ's would pull gearbox off / though the sudo frame. If you bind it up on rocks a definite good upgrade. Along with a spare pitman arm and nut maybe.

You can also look at Redneck Ram Hydro steering. They are about half the cost of the PSC. That is what I have on mine. It works good. The only issue I have is that the person that built it put the smaller ram on designed for 38 or smaller tires and I have 42s so it is harder to steer but more responsive. The support from them is top notch. When I called to figure out why I was having issues the owner walked me through all the steps to take some measurements and then looked up the original order and found I was using the wrong size ram. I got the correct size ordered with the custom length. Haven't installed it yet as I have a few other items to install on the front end but it might be worth looking at.

It is a small world. I went ahead and ordered that in hopes that it gets here before my APEX Power Steering Boost kit which was the purpose of the brace.
I must have seen you around at some point. The install seems easy enough but if you have any words of wisdom, please pass along.
If you seem me around, honk..

It is straight forward, as long as you have the right tools. I believe the pitman arm nut is a 42mm, if you need to borrow it instead of buying one just let me know.

Thanks for the offer. I am part of an Offroad Club headquartered here in the Bern. We meet up just about every weekend to work on our vehicles. Mine is one of the newer models and there was soo much that has changed over the years so the JK and older folks did not have much info for me on this one. If we do not have a 42, I'll holla...
Thanks Again...

Tatterbug I’ve got the metal cloak sector shaft brace on mine. When I did the pump and cooler upgrade and brace upgrade while checking the operation I noticed that when turning the whole frame would move . This had me a little shocked that there was that much force applied
And I’m running 37x12.50 tires. You know my truck it’s the silver glady in you club

I had the steel gearbox with redneck ram, I added the MC sector shaft brace and MC Front Track Bar brace. After going to the Rubicon I broke the drag link and bent a tie rod. After getting those fixed my steering was so messed up. I could turn my steering wheel a full 90 degrees in either direction without the wheels turning. When I took it to my local shop they looked everything over and found that the steering box was completely shot. They said that they went through 3 gearboxes on there JK before they finally just upgraded to the PSC Big Bore kit. I did reach out to Redneck Ram and they can rebuild the stock gearboxes and I believe it was around $300 to rebuild them. At the end I ended up going with the PSC Big Bore kit since I didn't want to keep having steering issues along with a custom heim joint steering linkage setup to remove the tie rods and draglink. But I am also running 42x12.5R20

That's plan once I get done crying over the price of the repairs. 😆

Probably a little late but if you want to get your own this is the one I got when I installed my Sector Shaft Brace.

I did the steersmarts brace & TMR 2.5T steering kit, I have the APEX boost kit waiting for install shortly. Metal cloak baller joints after that. 37x12.5' MT's

did the brace at the same time as the lift / tires etc, so i never had a chance to feel any "loose" or wandering steering.

There there it will all get better, just remember the #1 thing that helps to ease the pain is to hide the cost from others and use lots of excuses that help justify the expenses. Always works for me 😂😂
