Stubby GMRS antenna question.

I am most definitely not a radio guy, so could you please enlighten those like myself which antenna brands you would recommend?

Also will antenna type/dB/low-SWR affect clarity of communication? I don't mean can i send and receive, but the amount of static/noise in the transmission? I've been disappointed that GMRS is not very clear. Better than CB, but not by much. Perhaps that's my antenna? (using a Midland 575, with Midland 6dB antenna).

Some of the trusted commercial brands are Larsen, Laird, PCTEL, EM Wave and a few others. Brands like Midland and Tram/Browning target the commercial market but their products are way inferior to the real commercial/public service brands.

I also went with the windshield bolt mount, just on the passenger side, and I went with the lower side. Wiper blade just barely clears, it's tucked in between my snorkel so it's not noticeable. I can talk to other people on the trail, so I'm OK with the reduced range, I also have a 6db whip style laying around if it ever becomes a problem.

Simpson strong tie, about $2, plus using a drill with a step bit to make those holes a bit wider and some bedliner for the finish.
