How much did that set you back? I'm wanting to get a smaller tablet for my truck that I can use with my drone as well
Mine is an older version that I got on special for under $200.
I have had it for a few years now.
It was a $400-500 unit as I recall and that's what I think the latest ones still are.

Wow, sounds like you got a deal on yours. How's the screen brightness outdoors?

Yea, I really only did it because I found a deal on the unit.
Its just OK in direct sunlight, but It is better than any phone or other tablet I have used.
I also did have to add a matte screen protector to it as it just made the tablet a huge mirror without it.
It does work better in the Jeeps than on the bikes.

FWIW I am spoiled by my Garmin Montana that has a trans-reflective screen.
That is great in direct sunlight on the bikes.

Screen brightness seems to be the Achilles heel of every device when it comes to the whole drone thing. Not sure I can justify buying a new tablet that doesn't serve more than one purpose when I already have a Galaxy tab for the truck though. However, they kinda force your hand eventually when the updates run out and apps stop being compatible or stable

Could you do this with a regular iPhone if you're just going to project it anyways? What's the benefit of the mini at that point?

Waiting on 2022 to open up is killing me... The radio in my fun car still has a tape deck.

You could, and I know that it's a bit overkill to have an iPad. I have a full range of DSLR gear, but also find that I use my iPhone a lot as a point and shoot. So getting out of the jeep for a quick photo would be easier if the phone was just in my pocket or cup holder vs fumbling with the Ram mount.

Another thought was to use the iPad as a tracking device if the Jeep got stolen. Basically hid the iPad in the Jeep somewhere or maybe in a lock box anytime it was parked. If it got stolen, use the find my iPad app on iCloud and you found your Jeep. Just a thought.

Oh man, can you say airtags? Wonder if anyone has a few of those hidden on their JT by now. I sure know I will add that to the list now that you made me think of it.

Hmm, that might be the way to go once the network gets a little more popular.

Forgive me if I have missed this previously, but has anyone used a tablet for the gauge cluster display? Not sure what the feature is that displays the gauges on the radio but I don't have it. I would like to monitor the digital gauges on one screen with my tablet while having onX or Gaia in split screen.

I'll be honest. I tried the tablet in both the JK and our JT. Had both Android and Apple (Ipad Mini) and in the end ordered the Garmin Overlander. It does everything I want, simple to pop on the mount and doens't require me to download any maps unless I want Arial or specific ones. With wifi built in if I get to an area I can DL something in the hotel before the days adventure. The overlander paired with the Garmin Inreach is pretty slick. If we have cell we use them, but 99% of the time the Garmin is our go to device now. I just like the KISS method I guess.
