Went to get my 2020 Overland inspected and the tailgate light is out. How hard is it to replace? I need options because waiting for the dealership to fix it is pretty tough with my schedule.
My 2020 Rubicon is doing the same thing. You can start by checking the removable connection at the tailgate hinge area. Small black square with a tab, then the connection is behind that. Then if that doesn't get it, check the connection inside the tailgate by taking the panel off. If you can, verify you have voltage at the light with the brake pedal pressed. Use a stick for a helper. If that's good, then it's on to the order site for Mopar.
There are some YouTube videos you can watch about it and a couple of other threads here you can find with the search function.
Very easy to do. If you have an electric screw driver, it's less than 10 minutes. The first video undoes more than is necessary, but has some good info about the tabs. The second videos show that you don't need to undo the rods from the yellow clips that you see in the first vid.
I just failed the German inspection for this. How on earth are these LED lights burning out when they are supposed to be more durable than filaments...
I just did this last night on my wife's jeep. Took about 10 mins. The tailgate light is leds on a board. I'm shocked this one lasted 75,000 miles. $86.00 through the mopar website.
I had to have mine done last year...it weren't cheap at the stealership...good to know that it can be easily done by one's self for just the cost of parts. And, to top it off, the stealership forgot to reconnect the latch mechanism, and I didn't find out until I needed to open the tail gate
