Nice thread man.

I am also out in BC, Vancouver Island.

What site/book are you using to plan your trips? Did you come across somewhere that outlines all of these back roads?

Thanks in advance!
Thank you, really appreciate it.

There are a lot of things that go into planning a trip. I have a Backroads Map Book and a basic compass just in case everything fails in the car [LINK]. They have several versions of the map depending on your location, well worth the money.

Other then that I mostly use GAIA GPS on the Samsung Tablet and my Phone. Probably one of the best apps to use, you can download sections of maps for offline use, you can record paths, organize everything into categories, put signs and icons and label everything. Also GAIA GPS has, layers you can add onto the maps there is one made by Backroads Map Book, so what you see in the book is also on the map you are looking on your device. Some of the features are paid features, like the layered maps. But the base GAIA GPS map that they are non-stop developing is amazing, we used it for like half a year before I wanted to some of the payed features.

Here is an example of my GAIA GPS with some markers I that I use to organize my routes. You can also see the Backroads Map Book layer on top of this map.

With the payed subscription of GAIA GPS you can load your own layered maps into the app as well. I found TopNotchNav which is created by Mason. He lives in BC and creates detailed maps with loads more information that can not be found anywhere else. You can purchase the maps from him online and then download them and load them into GAIA GPS. Well worth the money, his maps are my main source of navigation within GAIA GPS.

Here is an example of the TopNotchNav map, same area as the above example but as you can see there are a lot more details that are not marked. Like I said well worth the money.

To be honest most of my routes and stuff we explore is quite literally just that, exploring. There is no site to tell you the roads to see and places to visit. Literally just gear up and go explore sometimes you get to a dead end and sometimes you make it to amazing spot. There are times were some of just hang out on Discord, chatting late into the night and I have Google Maps Open on one screen and GAIA on the other, just looking for Forest Service Roads.

Great post. Thank you for the info brother. Should have our build complete by summer and we will go find some adventure.

Keep the thread going - we enjoy the posts!

This whole measuring 50 times and cutting one deal is really hard sometimes. I don't want to waste money on several different products just to try them out because its a pain in the ass to sell or ship back in case I don't like it. So hear me out, I really like the stock tonneau cover for the Gladiator so I am trying to build camping setup where the gear will be nice and neat under it.

The next thing I am going to pull the trigger on, might be a nice air setup. The box I have chosen will also be big enough for me to fit some electrical in there for the fridge down the line.

The product I am looking at is the 813 Fabrication ARB Compressor Mounts [LINK] they come in two different flavors, Medium and Large. I could not find any dimensions on the website so I contacted them.

❌ The mid-size enclosure (BSC-M-0000-1) dimensions are approx. 12 W x 8.75 H x 5.25 D.
✔ The full-size enclosure (BSC-L-0000-1) dimensions are approx. 17.25 W x 8.75 H x 5.25 D.

Then I saw this amazing setup on their Instagram page...
Jeep Gladiator #teamGF #CDR - JT Gladiator Overland Build (Blucid) airsetup1

I am kinda in love with it, ill mount a descent compressor in there, have a 2LB air bottle ready and then ill run electrical out of the back end of the box for the fridge once its on the slide.

Jeep Gladiator #teamGF #CDR - JT Gladiator Overland Build (Blucid) fridgeandairmock

Made a box-mock of the size and drew some line for the Fridge Slider(RED), Fridge(YELLOW) and the wiring for the fridge(BLUE). I think the idea is to have the wiring on some kind of pulley system so that it slides with the fridge when I pull it out.

So from the bottom of the bed to the top of the metal beam for the tonneau cover its roughly 18in. The slider im planning to get has a height of 2in, with the tray being 1in from the bottom. So I have roughly 17in to play around with. Believe me when I say its hard to find a fridge that small, but big enough for a small family outing.

The fridge I have decided to get in the future is the ICECO 32QT JP30 [LINK]. I think its going to look great and function just the way I want it. If anyone has any other good suggestions let me know im all ears.

Quick question for you. Did you apply your own markers (the camping, parking, etc) or are those spots preloaded?

Thanks!

I have my own legend for the icons that I use and what I use them for. But GAIA GPS waypoint system has a huge amount of different icons / emoji that you can use for your own setup.

Since I have decided to get the 813 Fabrications Bed Side Compressor Housing, I decided to pick a fairly cheap air compressor from Canadian Tire. A friend of mine has been using one already and its not bad for the price. Nothing special but not bad, the plan is to mount it inside the compressor housing once I buy it. The Tire Inflator was 99$CAD but it was on-sale for 85$CAD, and even comes with a nice carrying case.

I do need some suggestions for air up hose lines.

I recently took a trip down to North Shore Off-Road [LINK] to check out and pick up some starting recovery gear. I am still looking for a nice Recovery Bag, I am just using a tote right now. But this is some of the items that I have picked up.

2x Soft Shackles
1x Tree Saver
1x Pair of Nice Gloves to have when using the gear.

It is officially on its way, 813 Fabrications Jeremy was really kind and nice to talk too. Got everything organized and it will be making its way to me soon.

Time to do some mounting, and get the air up tools organized. I was going to get something from SpeedFlate but decided in the end to just put everything together myself.

This is basically how's its going to look like, still thinking if I am going to mount an air tank or not. The idea is, plug in the airlines run it to two(2) tires at a time and then repeat the process on the other side of the truck. Excited cant wait to finish this setup ?.

[D] Amazon.ca Special - Seat Covers for the Rear - LINK

Nothing special to be honest just wanted something to protect the back of the truck. Fits really nice, and everything is accessible. Folding up and down the seats all works fine. With the 2nd kid coming soon we will need some rear seat protection. But to be honest I wont have 2 car seats in the Jeep unless we are going camping with the kids. Mostly to protect the leather, from gear being thrown into the Jeep.

In other news while we wait for the Bed Airbox to arrive, the group recently acquired a old 6th - Gen Pre-Tacoma well know as just Toyota Truck. I don't have the VIN information, did not write it down, but it needs a bit of cleaning. Its actually in really good shape, engine has about 650,000km but the overall body and condition is great. Its also manual so would be nice to get back into that a bit.

We had it inspected, and checked out, a bit of work needs to be done to clean it up but over all the engine and other stuff is in great shape so well see what becomes of it.

Compressor Enclosure has arrived. Upon opening up the package and first impressions, really well packaged and the quality of the box is top notch. It really feels and looks like a product that will definitely last for years to come. We were hanging out at the shop last night, working/tuning CTOGO's Built Subie and I did a little test fit / mock-up looks good and fits everything nicely.

I would consider your use case for the air tank. Unless running air tools they don’t create any additional efficiency in airing up tires. Build is looking great!

Thanks really appreciate it, must have missed this video from Sidetracked. Yeah, the tank thing is still just an idea not really 100% on it yet.

Progress Report \\
Last weekend we got down and dirty and installed the plate into the bed and got everything mocked up. Gotta say the instructions are pretty good, and the hardware supplied is really nice quality as well. We also disassembled the air compressor and figured out what switch we needed. We got air-hoses and cut them to length, and fashioned a nice air up loom. We just needed to order some parts and end pieces for final assembly which will be this Saturday.

I will post up pictures of all the finished items and setup once everything is done. Saturday we are running a wire from the front AUX switches to the back bed for the compressor. Cleaning and tidying up everything before assembly. More pictures coming soon.
