A shop needs to be about double the size you think you need.

That's good to hear. Home building is a pretty slow process in my neck of the woods, plus very expensive. I've budgeted $250,000 just for the garage and living quarters. That's doesn't include the well, electric, or septic.

That not too bad. Here in the Mountain West, I'd love to have a second home no further than 300 miles (5 hours) apart.
Our AZ property is 600 miles away. The distance is the most challenging part of the cabin build. The 5 days we spent framing, siding, doors, windows, and getting the roof on with just the wife and I were brutal, but we had no choice but to get it weather tight. Sun up to sun down for 5 straight days and then having to drive 600 miles home followed by 2 hours of sleep and then right into 7-12s on the project I was running was probably the hardest I've ever worked in my life, but it was necessitated by the distance.

Mine and our other daily drivers live outside. We have a 1500 sq ft three car garage, but that’s where the classics, tools, and the golf cart go. It still looks almost brand new when it gets cleaned up good.

I have a garage but putting the Jeep in there only fits but to nut. Doing any kind of work means it will stick out 4 feet or so. The HOA already hates me because IDGAF but i'd have to do one side then flip it HAHA all while the HOA will be their camera in hand taking picture of the copious violations. HAve i said HOAs are dumb yet? We pay but they can't afford to fix the roofs.

What’s worse is when you HAVE a garage but for whatever reason you can’t use it to work on vehicles. We started letting our feral cat out a bit ago and it was great to be able to get in the garage again. Then he up and disappeared for a day and came back with ANOTHER injury. So he is back in lock up while he heals. Need to build him an enclosure so he can go get his outside time without getting eaten by wildlife.

we had a tom cat like this when i was a kid. He would disappear and be gone for months then just magically reappear looking like he was coming back from WWII all blood and guts, missing teeth, knocked ears, black eyes. He was a beast. Cats with Black eyes look scary in its own right

Man, I didn’t realize you were in Poway. I used to stomp around there from time to time back a few years ago. I worked over on Miramar. Once I get settled into this new job and get Bandit all buttoned up we might have to schedule a run somewhere. Pancake rock or somewhere like that. I don’t really see too much of a presence or postings for SoCal people getting together for runs very often in here.

You have my respect. 600 miles is quite the haul. How many times per year do you go to the property?

We have friends that drive 875 miles from Kansas to New Mexico to get to their cabin. He came out one summer and dried in a 600 sq. ft. cabin. He did much of the finish work the following summer. And by the third summer, he pretty much had the cabin finished. They now come out three times per year and stay between 1 - 2 weeks each time.

Pretty much every holiday weekend we turn into 5 days minimum to get out there. Thanksgiving and memorial day we took the whole week so we had 10 days at a time. July 2nd through the 6th is the next trip, then labor day weekend. Roughly 8-9 trips per year. Still need to finish trim and paint in the loft. Next big project will be a 16'x16' deck off the front of the cabin but that may wait until next year.

Well, I hated to do it but I had to re-home my Mojave X. I had a blast with that truck but it had to go or I was going to have to build a Jeep Barn (wow, that sounds like a dream come true). I sold the 2-door Rubi X also. I have the 392 and I added a sidekick. A 2006 TJ just like the one I had 20 years ago! It needs TLC so I have some fun garage times coming up.

gonna hit some east county spots on the 12 of July if i have the Jeep then. I really need to get it in for rust repair before my 5 years expires in August. Plus the new recall. Somewhere out near Jamul.

Coll I’ll see where I stand by then. As long as it’s nothing too extreme I should be good. I don’t even have decent skids yet. :CWL:
