Man, when it rains, it pours. I can relate. My wife has had 6 surgeries this year. Kidneys, and bladder. She was diagnosed a month ago with the first stages of Alzheimer’s. We had to put our lab down 5 weeks ago, and now our chihuahua has a cancerous growth on her “ankle”. They don’t know if they can get it all, or will have to amputate. I’m lucky, or blessed, as I’m going strong for now. I hope everything starts heading in the right direction for you soon.

Two likely causes -
Meniere's
and
I've lost over 50% of the functionality of my left middle ear - the bit that helps you keep balance.
With one side working and the other side saying wait a minute, we're falling down, you have a conflict going on that in my case, makes me fill ill, headache, and the effect can last for hours.
It means if I'm ever pulled over for being sober, I likely can't walk a straight line. Now with the implants, though, I'll easy pass the fingers to nose test.
Stairs cause a problem - can't carry weight and walk down stairs without a railing.
Oddly enough, ok in a bicycle. Ok sitting most of the time although I've had attacks where I literally could not sit in a chair - literally falling over, and I have to wait those out. Thankfully, those are RARE, every few years.
But these days, laying down, looking up or to the side like on a creeper, I get sick feeling.

There was an episode of Chicago Fire years ago I'll never forget. The character Peter Mills fell off a ladder and he went unconscious while inverted doing a save.
What struck me was the reality of the testing the doctor did where doc had him lay down, and turned his head - and his eyes started darting back and forth uncontrollably.
They played that scene very well
I’m just trying to understand, so please don’t take this the wrong way. Are you able to lay on a mattress to sleep? Im asking because it sounds like you have trouble laying down on the ground.

No problem! I'd rather people ask, learn, that sort of thing instead of like happens with so many things. It's like my wife when she sees someone starting at her arms or hands - JUST BLOODY ASK!

Eyes closed (and I don't sleep on my back)so my body and eyes are sending the same info - no movement.
Eyes open in daylight, it's a different matter, I have to be careful.

I get it - it's confusing as heck and i've asked a ton of questions and even done a lot of testing on myself.

One of the guys in our Tuesday coffee group has the same sort of issues trying to lay under his cars to work on them.

-------------------------------------------------------

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
BPPV develops when calcium carbonate particles collect in the inner ear canals.

These canals send information about the body’s position and movements to the brain, but the presence of the calcium particles causes the brain to misread the information.

Ménière’s disease
This inner ear condition has no known cause, but some scientists believe that it can occur when fluid builds up in the ear canals.

Ménière’s disease can develop suddenly and without any apparent cause. It can give rise to vertigo, a ringing or roaring sound in the ears, and hearing loss.

Right after going to bed last night, rather about an hour later, my pillow felt wet and my head and hair felt wet and my scalp sort of crawling like a week ago.
Woke up this AM with some scalp pain and since it was 1 week after my last visit to the surgeon and he said "take a picture of the site in a week and email it to me" - we did just that.
10 minutes later he responds saying he needs me back in Iowa City Monday morning and more surgery.
They'll re-open the right side site, clean it out, remove the plastic cap on my skull, clean that out and reseal it and if all looks fine once inside, I go home - if it looks soupy, I stay a couple of days with IV antibiotics.

Monday I had a 8am appointment for Pickle to recheck his bad eye, and in the afternoon, an ortho appointment to deal with the broken off bone spur in my left thumb (it's wrapped so I can't move it but the piece still moves around in there causing great pain.

So I have to rearrange those two things and go to Iowa City first thing Monday for more surgery.
I got lucky and can get Pickle in later today/Friday, but the ortho place is closed today so can't reschedule that appointment.
Things are piled up deep.
Snow storm moving in later today, all day Saturday, ending early Sunday.
That means I have to clean up the snow Sunday, take the plow back off, and have it ready to drive to Iowa City early Monday AM.
Sunday will be hectic!!!

So sorry all this is happening to you. I hope all goes well with your cat, and that everything looks good enough Monday to be able to come home the same day. As for the hand, I would probably be able to block that out, as I have a high pain tolerance. ( I once worked 4 12 hour nights with a broke hand, because I was trying to wait until my day off to get it checked. Went to the Doctor as soon as I got off the last morning, due to noticing the bone was sticking out at last break). As for the snow plow, can’t you just take your wife’s vehicle? Best wishes to you.

Spell check... Skull not scalp. Remove the screws or whatever and check under that, too

Pop the hood and check under it. Check the oil, tranny fluid, belts, washer fluid, and blinker fluid.

That's about right - open things up, wash out the engine bay, check the fluid for contamination.

If there's soupy contamination, maybe some seafoam in there.

So, major winter storm tonight, all day tomorrow, ending early Sunday.
Sunday, temps dip down.
I need to clear snow Sunday and then remove the snow plow in the freezing cold WIND and snow so the truck can be used for another trip to Iowa City on early Monday and hope the roads and streets are ok in that city by then.
Going to be nice working getting that plow back off in the cold with my restrictions and an infection in my head. Gotta be done.

Got Pickle's recheck done today - not enough time to see if the drops are helping but she wasn't happy with how the iris in his left eye was messed up so she took a lot of detailed pictures and is going to bring in consult from ISU's veterinary services.

Bill, take the wife’s Jeep , it’s a hybrid and long trips you run on the 4-banger but who cares. Taking the plow off is more risk for your head area, not worth it.
God bless ya Bill……

Damn Bill, good luck. Can you hire someone at this point to clear the snow Sunday instead of dealing with it yourself? Doesn’t sound like all that activity is Going to be good for you. Or how about a neighbor that perhaps could help out?

I live where people hire it done - many are elderly. My neighbor (82) has a flat, level driveway and stays home.

My wife has locked in her trade value - so, miles are now a thing. I suppose it's possible. Still, the plow will have to come off, better before the surgery than after. There are times we both need transport, with all of our various appointments especially on my side.
