I know some thieves can program a new fob in without needing to clone an existing fob. Key programing can easily be prevented with a CAN Immobilizer.
But some thieves are still using fob cloning devices to steal cars.
So saying "The faraday box won't deter them at all" is equivalent to saying - don't lock your front door of your house because that won't deter a home invader because they can always break into your house through your back window or don't bother putting a kill switch in because they can always flatbed your car away.
Different thieves steal using different methods, you have to protect yourself from as many methods as you can.
Excellent point. I agree. I appreciate the correction. All layers are good ones.

They are also starting the vehicles through the CAN bus when they are programming additional fobs in, defeating kill switches on the start button wire.
We can oonly do our best to slow them down, but in the end, with enough time they can steal anything. Personally I like CAN bus immobilizers best, and second best a kill switch. They do almost the same thing, there are benefits to both methods...

On the fob battery subject, I've had one battery to die in one fob for certain. I changed the battery, it quit out of the blue no warning. I use both fob interchangeable not just one. It just depends on which one I grab that day.
On theft protection the kill switch done like in video could be quickly found and resolved. IMHO. If your thinking about that method trace the wire further upstream then do your splice. That's my recommendation. But could someone still jumper it to start with a wire???

It can still be started through the can bus wires. I saw one video where they grabed the wires in the door sill and another where they just plugged into the CAN bus star connector.

Unfortunately remote start won't work them...
That's correct. But there's no other types of kills that I'm aware of that will preventing them from starting it if keeping the remote start function.

That’s why I didn’t use the start button, but the starter relay and the fuel pump relay, under the locked hood.

But not if the starter and fuel pump relay are disconnected. They’d still fail.

Absolutely true. When mine is secured, it does not. It’s a trade off for sure. But I don’t want to be the next statistic.

If I care about remote start, I'm likely at home with my Jeep in a locked garage.
If I'm out and about at a hotel or travelling somewhere, I'm less likely to care about remote start, more likely to wonder about theft from a parking lot or hotel or whatever.
Some will have different thoughts because maybe they really want remote start - and don't have the Jeep otherwise secured in a locked building, so I can only apply that line of thought to ME.

That’s my thought process as well. At home, I use remote start 5 times per week in the winter. But it’s the furthest thing from a theft area. We can skip the arguments about thefts occurring anywhere. I’ll take the risk at home in the winter. I’ll secure it if I’m not going to use it for a while. I wanted more security for hotels, Denver day trips, road trips, etc. in those situations, I value security more than a pre-warmed vehicle for sure.
