Anyone attempted this or know if it's even possible? I have the Front Trail Cam, but I haven't found much use for it. A thermal camera at night though....that I would find useful. I'm wondering if the 8.4 screen is even capable of accepting whatever signal the thermals output.

Thoughts?

Probably possible, getting the headunit to recognize and accept the camera may be the bigger challenge. I dont thinks it's just a plug and play but could be wrong.

There's a guy who did it on a Pioneer head unit but I think those are more universally accepting of inputs.

The Zautomotive kit for adding a front camera would probably work. It gives you a SD analog input in the Cargo Camera position. You would just need to get and mount the other camera. There's also some generic front camera kits on Amazon that can be activated using Jscan. The Zautomotive instructions are available on their website.

The trail cam output goes to the CVPM behind the rear seat, not the 8.4. The CVPM is what feeds the 8.4.

Given that the CVPM won't even accept the signal from a non trail cam equipped Jeep's rear cam and front trail cam equipped Jeeps have a unique rear cam, I doubt something else will work. You'll have to run a new cable through the firewall and terminate to the standard definition input on the 8.4.

Any idea what kind of signal the CVPM inputs? I found the FLIR Vue Pro that looks like a viable candidate. It outputs both PAL and NTSC signals. I'm curious what signal the stock front trail cam outputs and if I could swap out the cameras and possibly trick the CVPM.

I'm gonna guess they're IP cameras using h.264. That would explain why CVPM equipped Jeeps ( front trail cam equipped ) require a different rear camera than those without.

Curious what you find.
